Police Blotter June 10: Man Stabbed on Sidewalk; Man Arrested After Releasing Unruly Dog

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

A Des Plaines man was stabbed while walking along the sidewalk at 2 a.m. on June 9 at the corner of Main Street and Ridge Avenue. Police were called to St. Francis Hospital at 3:16 a.m., where the man, with stab wounds to his right thigh and left hip, struggled to recall details of the incident. He couldn't recall any description of the attacker, but said the person had a 10-inch kitchen knife.

Disobedience to Police

A man was arrested after he allegedly failed to restrain his Doberman in Grey Park and disobeyed police by releasing the dog from its leash. John C. Parker, 33, of Evanston was charged with disobedience to police, failure to restrain a dog in the park, and failure to remove excrement at 10:34 a.m. on June 9 on the 900 block of Ridge Avenue. Police said they saw the dog running around the park, then defecate next to the playground. Parker initially put the dog back on the leash before releasing it again, and the dog ran off. His court date is set for June 29.

 

Burglary

Burglars broke into an unlocked apartment between 10:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. on June 9 on the 600 block of Grove Street. They stole a blue Dell Studio 1558 laptop computer, an Olympus digital camera, an Apple Nano iPod music player and some jewelry.

A burglar broke out a window on a house on the 2800 block of Elgin Road and stole some checks and some cash between 9:30 a.m. and 8:12 p.m. on June 8.

A black and silver Canon PowerShot camera was stolen from an unlocked car between 6 a.m. and 6:10 a.m. on June 7 on the 200 block of Ridge Avenue.

Someone stole an Apple iPhone, a Blackberry cell phone and some cash from a gym locker at the YMCA on the 1000 block of Grove Street between 4:50 p.m. and 5:10 p.m. on June 9. A suspect has been identified as a black male about 5-foot-7 and 130 pounds.

Cash was stolen out of secured gym locker between 7:30 p.m. and 8:55 p.m. on June 8 at the YMCA on the 1000 block of Grove Street.

 

Vandalism

Someone scribbled green marker on a 2000 GMC between 11 p.m. on June 8 and 10 a.m. on June 9 on the 2700 block of Crawford Avenue.

 

Marijuana Possession

Aidan P. Murphy, 19, of Evanston was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 2:15 a.m. on June 10 on the 2700 block of Central Park Avenue. His court date is set for July 19.

Levertis C. P. Williams, 18, of Evanston was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 5:20 a.m. on June 9 on the 2300 block of Dempster Street. His court date is set for June 29.

 

Driving without a License

Martha P. Aguilar-Balderas, 37, of Skokie was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 3:48 p.m. on June 8 on the 1800 block of Church Street. Her court date is set for July 8.

Maria E. Cedillo-Cervantes, 44, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 7:30 p.m. on June 9 at the intersection of Lake Street and Ridge Avenue. Her court date is set for July 5.

Gamele W. Folston, 30, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 3:44 p.m. on June 9 on the 1800 block of North Wolcott Avenue in Chicago. His court date is set for July 5.

Blake J. Ross, 18, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 4:20 a.m. on June 9 on the 1800 block of Dempster Street. His court date is set for July 29.

Rogelio Suarez, 25, of Skokie was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 10:20 p.m. on June 9 on the 1000 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for July 12.
