Police Blotter June 14: Man Jumped, Hit with Brick on Emerson; Burglar Caught with Petty Cash from Car

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Battery

A man was jumped and hit with a brick in the face by three other men at 1:20 a.m. on June 14 on the 1900 block of Emerson Street. The men then pummeled his torso before fleeing. The man knew one of the suspects and identified the others as two black men, one 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds and about 21 years old, the other 5-foot-9 and 230 pounds and about 22 years old. Both men wore black jackets and black pants. The victim was treated at the Evanston Hospital for a battered face.

Jerry W. Marshall, 35, of Evanston was arrested and charged with assault at 1:22 a.m. on June 11 on the 2700 block of Central Street. His court date is set for June 22.

A man is suspected in a fight involving juveniles on the 1800 block of Church Street at 6 p.m. on June 8. The suspect is a black man about 6-foot-1 and 280 pounds.

 

Burglary

A Chicago man was allegedly caught burglarizing an unlocked 2003 Mercedes-Benz at 7:08p.m. on June 12 on the 800 block of Emerson Street. Police said he stole $4.15 from the luxury automobile. Marcus A. Austin, 22, was arrested and charged with burglary to a motor vehicle at 7:20 p.m. An eyewitness called in the crime and then allegedly identified Austin, who was still in the area. His court date is set for June 21.

Someone trespassed in a garage on the 700 block of Sheridan Road between 9:30 p.m. on June 11 and 10:55 a.m. on June 12, but nothing was taken.

 

Theft

Vicki Garcia, 19, of Evanston was arrested and charged with identity theft at 9:40 p.m. on June 13 on the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue. Her court date is set for July 22.

Leslie J. Bennett, 26, of Chicago was arrested and charged with theft of lost or mislaid property at 4:14 p.m. on June 13 on the 2400 block of Main Street. His court date is set for July 22.

An extension ladder and some tools were left unattended in a yard and stolen between 11:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. on June 13 on the 2600 block of Prairie Avenue. The suspect is an Hispanic man about 5-foot-5 and 200 pounds.

A wallet was stolen at the Jewel-Osco grocery store on the 2400 block of Howard Street between 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. on June 13.

A Trek mountain bike tied to a tree was stolen at 7:45 p.m. on June 13 on the 1500 block of Sherman Avenue.

A blue Pallamar mountain bike was stolen from an apartment building common area at 1 p.m. on June 12 on the 900 block of Davis Street.

A locked Giant mountain bike was stolen off a bicycle rack at 4:30 p.m. on June 13 on the 1600 block of Benson Avenue.

A parking sticker was reported stolen off a vehicle at 11:17 a.m. on June 13 on the 800 block of Judson Avenue.

 

Vandalism

Someone keyed a 2009 BMW between 3 p.m. on June 8 and 10:30 p.m. on June 12 on the 2600 block of Orrington Avenue.

 

Obstruction of Justice

Roberto G. Garcia, 38, of Chicago was arrested and charged with obstructing justice at 8:46 p.m. on June 11 at the corner of Chicago Avenue and Howard Street. Garcia also had two outstanding warrants. His court date is set for June 21.

 

Arrest Warrant 

Michael M. Harris, 49, of Evanston was arrested on a warrant at the Evanston Police Station at 7 a.m. on June 10.

 

Possession of Marijuana

Pierre D. Miller, 24, of Evanston was arrested and charged with marijuana possession at 12:15 p.m. on June 13 on the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue. His court date is set for June 28.

 

Open Container

Jerome T. Jefferson, 20, of Evanston and Sean C. McClure, 19, of Evanston were arrested for having open alcohol on public property at 6:10 p.m. on June 13 on the 1800 block of Ashland Avenue. The court date for Jefferson is set for June 29. A court date for McClure is not listed.

 

Driving without a License

Christina M. Fuentes, 27, of Chicago, was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 2:43 p.m. on June 12 at the intersection of Elgin Road and Sherman Avenue. Her court date is set for July 8.

Omar E. Maldanado, 28, of Evanston, was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 5:16 p.m. on June 8 on the 300 block of Sheridan Road. His court date is set for July 8.

Samuel Mayaho-Cantoran, 23, of Chicago, was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 2:57 p.m. on June 11 on the 600 block of Chicago Avenue. His court date is set for July 12.

Claudia G. Mendoza, 24, of Evanston, was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 8:47 p.m. on June 11 on the 2200 block of Main Street. Her court date is set for July 12.
