Police Blotter June 15: Two Men Charged with Battery; Chicago Woman Hit with Forgery Charge

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Battery

An Evanston man was accused of grabbing two boys at the Levy Center, resulting in minor injuries to the boys. Michael E. Benson, 45, was arrested and charged with battery at 4:15 p.m. on May 24 at the Evanston Police Station. His court date is set for July 5.

Police said a man shoved his neighbor and made verbal threats in the hallway of their apartment building on Tuesday. Eric A. Timm, 39, of Evanston was arrested and charged with battery at 7:06 p.m. on June 14 on the 600 block of Brummel Street. His court date is set for June 30.

Forgery

Ronuique L. Dixon, 19, of Chicago was arrested and charged with forgery at 9:45 a.m. on May 13 at the Cook County Jail in Chicago. Her court date is set for June 21.

 

Theft

A man allegedly stole liquor from the Jewel-Osco grocery on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue at 8:14 a.m. on June 13. Isaac J. Haygood, 34, of Chicago was arrested and charged with retail theft. His court date is set for July 22.

A man followed someone into an apartment building only to steal that person's keys at 3:15 p.m. on June 14 on the 2300 block of Central Street.

Two Xbox gaming systems were stolen from Sam's Club between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on June 5 on the 2400 block of Main Street. The suspects were known by store security.

A wallet was stolen from a purse while it was hanging on the back of a chair at a restaurant on the 1200 block of Chicago Avenue at 6:45 p.m. on June 9.

A man stole a package of personal items from a lawn on the 1000 block of Harvard Terrace at 3:30 p.m. on June 14.

A locked bicycle was stolen off a rack on the 1000 block of Grove Street at 6 p.m. on June 14.

Two male subjects reportedly stole a purple Blackberry cell phone from a backpack at Evanston Township High School between 12:50 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. on June 14. The suspects are a white male, 5-foot-8 and 210 pounds and a black male, 6-foot and 145 pounds.

 

Vandalism

Someone damaged a paddle board while it was on the rack at Burnham Shores Park on the 1200 block of Lake Shore Boulevard at 5 p.m. on June 9.

A male subject set fire to an alley on the 2400 block of Ridgeway Avenue between 6 p.m. on June 13 and 8:45 a.m. on June 14. The suspect is white male about 6-foot-2 and 135 pounds.

A subject with a matching description set a second fire in an alley on the 2300 block of Cowper Avenue at 7:57 a.m. on June 14.

A garage on the 2300 block of Hastings Avenue was marked up with graffiti between 10 p.m. on June 13 and 8 a.m. on June 14.

Obstruction of Justice

Ramone D. Patterson, 23, of Chicago was arrested and charged with obstructing justice at 3:20 a.m. on June 14 on the 7500 block of North Ridge Boulevard in Chicago. His court date is set for Aug. 10.

 

Domestic Battery

A 36-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 7:19 p.m. on June 11 on the 1800 block of Dempster Street. His court date is set for June 22.

A 24-year-old Chicago man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 1:11 a.m. on June 14 on the 200 block of Callan Avenue. His court date is set for June 22.

A 19-year-old Evanston woman was arrested and charge with domestic battery at 7:20 p.m. on June 13 on the 700 block of Brummel Street. Her court date is set for June 15.

 

Driving under the Influence

Lakesha Sims, 32, of Skokie was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 12:11 a.m. on June 15 on the 1200 block of Emerson Street. Her court date is set for July 22.

 

Driving without a License

Maria C. Soto, 18, of Cicero was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 3:42 p.m. on June 14 on the 1900 block of Ridge Avenue. Her court date is set for July 5.
