Police Blotter June 17: Cab Driver Nearly Hits Police Officer; Tuxedo and Jewelry Stolen from Car

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Battery

Police said a NorShore taxi driver tried to hit a police officer with his car on Wednesday night at the Howard Street cab station west of the El station. Police were called to the cab station about 11 p.m. to settle a dispute in which one cab driver claimed another cut in line in front of him. When an officer questioned the alleged cutter, the man allegedly slammed his foot on the gas pedal, nearly striking the officer with his car. Police arrested Sayed M. Kharot, 48, of Chicago and charged him with aggravated assault, reckless driving, operating a taxi without an Evanston chauffeur's license and failure to display inspection sticker on the 500 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for July 29.

Reginald Washington, 24, of Evanston was arrested and charged with assault at 10:50 p.m. on June 15 at the Evanston Police Station. Police said he turned himself in on charges that stem from threats he made to an ex-girlfriend. His court date is set for July 22.

A man grabbed a woman's left wrist and pulled her towards him on the sidewalk of the 800 block of Grove Street at 4:34 p.m. on June 16. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-8 and 150 pounds.

A man put his arms around someone at the Whole Foods grocery on the 1600 block of Chicago Avenue at 2:30 p.m. on June 13. The suspect is a white man about 5-foot-7 and 150 pounds.

 

Burglary

A burglar broke into a 2005 Acura while it was parked in a single-family garage on the 2200 block of Forestview Road and stole earrings, a bracelet, a necklace, a tuxedo, a dress and other clothing and jewelry between 6:30 p.m. on June 13 and 2 p.m. on June 14.

A burglar entered an unlocked 1995 Honda and stole a silver and black Sony car stereo, a black Apple iPod music player and a black Motorola phone between 9:30 p.m. on June 14 and 6:30 a.m. on June 15.

 

Theft

A man allegedly stole a bottle of Ciroc vodka from the Jewel-Osco on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue at 7:20 a.m. on June 15. Lamar Wimberly, 43, of Chicago was arrested and charged with retail theft at 7:45 a.m. His court date is set for June 28.

Two men stole a bottle of Ciroc vodka from the Dominick's on the 2700 block of Green Bay Road at 7:50 p.m. on June 16. The suspects are black men about 5-foot-9. One weighed about 170 pounds and the other about 200 pounds.

A garbage can was stolen from an alley on the 1900 block of Warren Street at 7:28 p.m. on June 16.

A locked Raleigh Grand Prix bicycle was stolen off a bike rack at 7 p.m. on June 16 on the 900 block of Foster Street.

 

Domestic Battery

A 26-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 8:30 p.m. on June 14 on the 2400 block of Church Street. His court date is set for June 29.

 

Arrest Warrant

Fernando I. Heredia-Reyes, 20, of Evanston was arrested on a warrant at 7:27 p.m. on June 14 on the 900 block of Dobson Street.

Tiffany R. Martin, 21, of Skokie was arrested on a warrant at 6:55 p.m. on June 13 on the 1900 block of Emerson Street. Her court date is set for July 5.

John C. Parker, 33, of Evanston was arrested on a warrant at 10:34 a.m. on June 9 on the 900 block of Ridge Avenue.
