Police Blotter June 20: Bar Fight at Nevin's Sends Man to Hospital; Evanston Teen Arrested for May Feud

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Battery

A man punched another man in the face with a closed fist, knocking him to the ground, and then he stomped on the man's head. The incident happened at Tommy Nevin's Pub on the 1400 block of Sherman Avenue at 1:28 a.m. on June 19 on the 1400 block of Sherman Avenue. The suspect is a white man about 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds, and he ran north toward downtown Evanston after the fight. The victim was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.

Disorderly Conduct

An Evanston teenager was charged with disorderly conduct in connection with a pair of fights that took place on May 12 and 13. Daryle L. Houston Jr., 18, was arrested at 4:25 p.m. on June 16 at the Evanston Police Station. Police said Houston was with a group of teens that approached another group of teens at the corner of Church Street and Dodge Avenue on May 12 and picked a fight. The following day, Houston and his friends saw the teens and allegedly ran them into the Fleetwood Community Center on the 1600 block of Foster Street. A court date for Houston is set for July 5.

Leah M. Bass, 32, of Evanston was arrested and charged with three counts of disorderly conduct at 4:30 p.m. on June 17 on the 1000 block of Greenleaf Street. A court date is set for July 5.

 

Burglary

A burglar broke out a ground-level window of a house on the 2400 block of Crawford Avenue and stole jewelry between 7 p.m. on June 16 and 3:30 p.m. on June 17.

A burglar went into the back of a house through an open window on the 2400 block of Crawford Avenue and stole diamonds, gold, silver and costume jewelry between 7 p.m. on June 16 and 1 a.m. on June 17.

A burglar broke into an apartment on the 1900 block of Sherman Avenue and stole clothing at 7 p.m. on June 17.

A Schwinn bicycle was stolen from a locked apartment storage unit between 6 p.m. on June 16 and 3:40 p.m. on June 18 on the 900 block of Dobson Street.

A burglar entered a garage through an unlocked door and stole a blue and silver Trek bicycle and a second bicycle that was black and yellow between 4 p.m. on June 17 and 4 p.m. on June 18 on the 2700 block of Broadway.

A burglar broke into an unlocked 2004 Mazda and stole Chase credit cards, a checkbook and other personal items between 10 p.m. on June 16 and 7:50 a.m. on June 17 on the 2400 block of Crawford Avenue.

 

Theft

William V. Hoxsas, 57, of Chicago was arrested at his home on the 3500 block of North Lowell Avenue in Chicago and charged with retail theft at 10:30 a.m. on Junt 16. His court date is set for June 27.

A white 2005 Chevy Trail Blazer was stolen off the street on the 900 block of Mulford at 4 a.m. on June 8. The SUV has an Illinois Purple Heart license plate with the number WV160B.

A man allegedly stole a bug zapper from Home Depot at 7:33 p.m. on June 18 on the 2300 block of Oakton Street. Agim Purelku, 39, of Chicago was arrested and charged with retail theft on the 2200 block of Oakton Street. His court date is set for July 8.

A woman noticed her purse missing from a restaurant booth on the 800 block of Grove Street at 3 a.m. on June 18. The blue leather Marc Jacobs purse contained a Canon camera and a Thunderbolt cell phone, with total contents above $500.

A man stole liquor from the Dominick's grocery store on the 1900 block of Dempster Street at 3:23 p.m. on June 18. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-9 and 150 pounds.

A man stole food from the Jewel-Osco grocery store on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue at 8:48 a.m. on June 17. The suspect is a white man about 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds.

Cash was stolen from a dresser in a house on the 1900 block of Jackson Avenue between 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. on June 18. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-8 and 205 pounds.

A locked silver and white 26-inch Giant hybrid bicycle was stolen off a parking meter at 1 a.m. on June 16 on the 700 block of Howard Street.

A locked silver Mongoose bicycle was stolen from a rack on the 1000 block of Grove Street between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on June 19.

A black Apple iPhone was stolen after it was left on the counter at a business on the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue. The suspect is a black woman about 5-foot-6 and 180 pounds.

 

Vandalism

The front door of an apartment building was broken at 5:57 p.m. on June 16 on the 1100 block of Dewey Avenue. The suspect is a black woman about 5-foot-3 and 130 pounds.

Someone threw a bottle at a 1996 Honda, breaking a rear window between 6 p.m. on June 18 and 9 a.m. on June 19 on the 300 block of Dodge Avenue.

The front passenger-side window of a 2005 Honda was found busted out at 11:24 a.m. on June 17 on the 1400 block of Maple Avenue.

A large dent was made to the hatchback of a 2007 Saturn between 11:55 p.m. on June 16 and 8:30 a.m. on June 17 on the 300 block of Sherman Avenue. The suspect is a white man about 5-foot-8 and 175 pounds.

A 2004 Nissan was egged at 11:30 p.m. on June 16 on the 1700 block of South Boulevard.

Someone set a garbage can on fire and damaged a fence in an alley on the 1200 block of Hinman Avenue at 9:50 p.m. on June 18.

 

Man with Gun

A man was seen with a gun and six shots were fired at 12:42 a.m. on June 17 on the 2300 block of Lyons Street.

 

Marijuana Possession

Reginald T. Boclair, 22, of Chicago was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 2:35 a.m. on June 18 on the 1300 block of Cleveland Street. His court date is set for June 27.

Kevin D. Tuft, 28, of Evanston was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 8:19 p.m. on June 17 on the 1800 block of Dempster Street. His court date is set for July 19.

 

Open Container

Omar Delacruz, 30, of Chicago was arrested and charged with public consumption of alcohol at 1:50 a.m. on June 17 on the 500 block of Sheridan Square. His court date is set for July 19.

 

Driving without a License

Sean M. Allen, 34, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 6:39 p.m. on June 18 on the 100 block of Ridge Avenue. His court date is set for July 29.

Carlos Ariza, 32, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 8:53 a.m. on June 15 on the 200 block of Dodge Avenue. His court date is set for July 22.

Eamon L. Hennen, 24, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 1:20 a.m. on June 18 on the 500 block of Kedzie Street. His court date is set for Aug. 10.

Marco Moyaho, 28, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 1:09 a.m. on June 18 on the 500 block of Chicago Avenue. His court date is set for July 22.

Gerald A. Pink, 57, of Gurnee was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 10 a.m. on June 15 on the 1900 block of Central Street. His court date is set for July 12.
