Police Blotter June 21: Alleged Gang Member Slaps Boy; Makeup Thief Caught at Howard Street Jewel

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

A teenage boy grabbed another juvenile by the neck and slapped him in the face at 2:05 p.m. on June 19 on the 1700 block of Lyons Street. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-7 and 150 pounds about 16 years old. Police said he told the other boy, "I own this block," and then revealed his gang affiliation. He ran south on Dodge Avenue after the incident, but police could not find him. 

A woman hit another woman in the face at St. Francis Hospital at 9:30 a.m. on June 19 on the 300 block of Ridge Avenue. The incident involved family members visiting a sick relative.

A man threatened someone at Quinlan Park on the 2500 block of Pioneer Road at 8:16 p.m. on June 20. The suspect is a 5-foot-6 white man.

 

Theft

A woman allegedly stole $39 worth of makeup and food from Jewel-Osco on the 2400 block of Howard Street at 7:45 p.m. on June 19. Susan L. Kupreisis, 47, of Chicago was arrested and charged with felony shoplifting due to prior convictions. Her court date is set for July 6.

A woman brought a stolen item to Windy City Jewelry & Loan between 12:01 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on June 4 on the 900 block of Howard Street. The suspect is a black woman about 5-foot-5 and 125 pounds.

Cash, a Chase debit card and a Motorola Defy cell phone were left by the swimming pool at the YMCA when they went missing at 5:30 p.m. on June 19 at the YMCA on the 1000 block of Grove Street.

Someone tried to steal a bench from someone's lawn on the 1700 block of Brummel Street at noon on June 20.

A locked, mint-condition green 2008 Bianchi Milano Parco Celeste bicycle was reported stolen from a rack outside the YMCA on the 1000 block of Grove Street at 8 p.m. on June 19.

A Trek bicycle locked to a parking meter was reported stolen at 3:25 p.m. on June 19 on the 1500 block of Chicago Avenue.

A locked 18-inch black Trek bicycle was stolen at 9 p.m. on June 20 on the 900 block of Noyes Street.

A T-Mobile Touch Android cell phone was stolen after it was left unattended on the counter of a chain business at 3 p.m. on June 20 on the 300 block of Howard Street.

 

Burglary

Burglars broke out a window on a house on the 3300 block of Culver Street and stole a Nintendo Wii Gaming System, jewelry and cash between 8 a.m. on June 17 and noon on June 18.

A burglar broke into 1997 Ford parked in a lawn on the 1200 block of Pitner Avenue and stole a green tote bag with tools between 2 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on June 19.

 

Vandalism

Someone set fire to a park bench at 5:02 p.m. on June 17 at Gilbert Park on the 1600 block of Emerson Street.

A 2008 GMC was keyed in an apartment complex parking lot at 5:11 p.m. on June 20 on the 200 block of Dodge Avenue. The suspect is a black woman about 5-foot tall and 130 pounds.

A commercial property was tagged with graffiti between 1 p.m. on June 18 and 6:30 a.m. on June 20 on the 700 block of Custer Avenue.

A garage was tagged with black graffiti at 9 a.m. on June 19 on the 1300 block of Central Street.

 

Domestic Battery

A 14-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 12:24 p.m. on June 19.

 

Driving under the Influence

Pierrie S. Giles, 23, of Harwood Heights was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 9:53 p.m. on June 17 on the 1000 block of Dodge Avenue. His court date is set for July 5.

 

Man with Gun

A man was seen with a gun and one shot was fired at 3:48 a.m. on June 20 at the corner of Elmwood Avenue and Howard Street.

 

Open Container

William P. McKevitt, 50, of Chicago was arrested and charged with public consumption of alcohol at 1:16 a.m. on June 20 on the 1500 block of Dobson Street. His court date is set for July 19.

 

Driving without a License

Tris A. Tillman, 51, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 2:06 a.m. on June 18 on the 1100 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for July 12.
