Police Blotter June 22: Computer Drive Stolen from Golf Course; Arrest Made in Sam's Club Theft

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Theft

Christopher B. Mihun, 25, of Morton Grove was arrested at his home on the 7300 block of Arcadia Street in Morton Grove and charged with retail theft at 11:15 a.m. on June 21. Police said Mihun was working as a vendor at Sam's Club on June 5 with another man when he stole two X-Box gaming systems, clothing, DVDs and miscellaneous food items by hiding them in his display case. Sam's Club security caught the two men on camera. When Evanston Police searched his house, they said they recovered the X-Box systems and some of the other items, but the food had been eaten. The other man has not been charged. His court date is set for Aug. 5.

A suspended employee allegedly entered the office of a golf course on the 1000 block of Central Street, dismantled a computer and ripped out the internal hard disk drive that contained financial records at 7:15 a.m. on June 21.

A man stole money from a man while he was fighting another person at 5:55 a.m. on June 20 in a parking lot on the 100 block of Asbury Avenue.

A woman stole a cell phone during a fight on the sidewalk of the 1300 block of Oak Avenue at 6:50 a.m. on June 21. The suspect is a black woman about 5-foot-10 and 135 pounds. A police officer later recovered the phone.

A wallet was stolen after it was left unattended in a park on the corner of Sheridan Road and Church Street at 7:56 p.m. on June 12.

A car key and debit card were stolen from a condominium on the 800 block of Main Street at 7:09 p.m. on June 18. The suspect is a black male about 5-foot-8 and 125 pounds.

The front and rear license plates of a car were found stolen at 6:36 p.m. on June 20 at corner of Howard Street and Clyde Avenue.

A 14-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with retail theft at 6:20 p.m. on June 21 at Campus Gear on the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue.

 

Burglary

Someone broke out the front driver's-side window of a 1997 Honda and stole assorted cigars and cigarettes in the parking lot of Food 4 Less between 11:45 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. on June 21 on the 2400 block of Main Street.

A burglar stole cash and an Apple iPhone from an unlocked 1992 Acura between 11:30 p.m. on June 20 on the 12:30 a.m. on June 21.

 

Drug Dealing

DeJuan M. Chastang, 29, of Nashville, Tenn., was arrested and charged with delivery of a controlled substance at 5 p.m. on June 20 on the 2100 block of Darrow Avenue. His court date is set for June 28.

 

Vandalism

An apartment common area was hit with graffiti between 10 p.m. on June 20 and 6 a.m. on June 21 on the 2500 block of Jackson Avenue.

A 15-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with criminal damage at 2:30 p.m. on June 21.

 

Domestic Battery

A 40-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 11:25 p.m. on June 20 on the 1200 block of Darrow Avenue. His court date is set for July 6.

A 19-year-old Chicago resident was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 5:55 a.m. on June 20 on the 100 block of Asbury Avenue. A court date is set for June 29.

 

Arrest Warrant

Sean M. Allen, 34, of Evanston was arrested on a warrant at 6:39 p.m. on June 18 on the 100 block of Ridge Avenue. His court date is set for July 12.

Christopher D. Boyd, 28, of Evanston was arrested on a warrant at 10:50 p.m. on June 17 on the 1800 block of Dodge Avenue.

Michael J. Davis, 23, of Evanston was arrested on a warrant at 2:34 a.m. on June 19 on the 1900 block of Jackson Avenue.

Thomas M. Hutchinson, 48, of North Chicago was arrested on a warrant at 8:48 p.m. on June 19 on the 600 block of Sherman Avenue.

Terry Williams, 48, of Evanston was arrested on a warrant at 3:45 a.m. on June 19 on the 12oo block of Simpson Street.

Lamar Wimberly, 43, of Chicago was arrested on a warrant at 7:45 a.m. on June 15 on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue.

 

Driving without a License

Stephen B. DeJesus, 28, of Skokie was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 12:40 a.m. on June 22 at the intersection of Main Street and Ashland Avenue. His court date is set for July 12.

Leonard Soberanis, 28, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 7:06 p.m. on June 21 on the 800 block of Brummel Street. His court date is set for July 8.
