Police Blotter June 27: Man Arrested After Allegedly Knocking Man Out; Woman Finds Burglars in Apartment

This police blotter was originally published June 27, 2011. Where arrests are included, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Battery

A man allegedly hit another man in the face, knocking him unconscious at 12:46 a.m. on June 25 on the 800 block of Dodge Avenue. Police said the victim had been walking to the 7-Eleven on Dodge with two friends when a pair of men came up to him, including Scotty S. Jobe-Scott, 18, of Evanston, who asked him for a light. The victim told him “No,” and the next thing the victim knew, he told police, he was lying on the ground with a welt to his face, having been knocked out cold. Police canvassed the area and found Jobe-Scott, whom they said matched the description given by the beaten man's friends. Jobe-Scott was arrested and charged with battery at 1:30 a.m. His court date is set for Aug. 10.

A person was shot in the leg during a robbery at 2 a.m. on June 24 on the 1800 block of Lyons Street. A cell phone was also stolen during the robbery.

A 10-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with battery at 7:50 p.m. on June 24 on the 700 block of Reba Place.

Disorderly Conduct

Takiah M. Dudley, 26, of Evanston was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct at 10:40 p.m. on June 23 on the 1800 block of Lyons Street. Her court date is set for Aug. 5.

Raymond E. Simms, 54, of Evanston was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct at 9:52 p.m. on June 24 on the 600 block of Case Place. His court date is set for July 19.

 

Burglary

A woman found unknown burglars in her apartment at 3:56 a.m. on June 26 on the 700 block of Mulford Street. Nothing was taken.

A burglar broke into an apartment on the 700 block of Seward Street and stole a Mac laptop computer, a Compaq laptop computer and an Apple iPod music player between 10 p.m. on June 25 and 6:30 a.m. on June 26.

Burglars broke into a house through an unlocked door between 2:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. on June 24 on the 2000 block of Darrow Avenue. They stole a Microsoft Halo Edition X-Box gaming system, various video games and a black Apple mp3 music player.

A burglar broke into a garage through an open door and stole a Craftsman table saw and tools between 1:30 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. on June 26 on the 1600 block of Greenwood Street. 

Cash was stolen from a locker at L.A. Fitness on the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on June 26.

A purple hybrid Schwinn bicycle was stolen out of a locked storage shed at 4 p.m. on May 31 on the 1300 block of Hartrey Avenue.

A silver GT bicycle was stolen out of an unlocked garage between 3:55 p.m. and 4:05 p.m. on June 25.

A car owner's neighbor saw an unknown person ransack the inside of a 2004 Buick at 3:45 a.m. on June 24 on the 1500 block of Darrow Avenue, but nothing was taken.

A car owner's neighbor saw two unknown men close the door to the 2000 Oldsmobile at 2:44 a.m. on June 24 on the 1000 block of McDaniel Avenue, but nothing was taken.

A burglar broke into an unlocked 2001 Toyota and stole cash and a GPS device between 6 p.m. on June 23 and 4 p.m. on June 24 on the 2300 block of Lake Street.

 

Theft

Two Skokie men allegedly stole liquor from the Dominick's on the 1900 block of Dempster Street at 9:28 p.m. on June 25. Richard T. Chalem, 19 and William H. Dixon, 19, were arrested and charged with retail theft at 9:38 p.m. Their court date is set for Aug. 5.

An Apple iPod Nano music player was stolen from someone's house on the 2200 block of Madison Place at 1:30 p.m. on June 25. The suspect is a man the victim knew.

A woman stole clothing from a store on the 500 block of Main Street at 2:01 p.m. on June 26. The suspect is a Hispanic woman about 5-foot-3 and 140 pounds.

A wallet with a Chase card, a Visa card and a driver's license was stolen out of an unattended stroller at the Evanston Public Library between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on June 23.

A woman noticed her wallet missing from her sweater at the Jewel-Osco on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue at 5 p.m. on June 23.

A woman stole Neutrogena face wash from the Dominick's on the 1900 block of Dempster Street at 4:40 p.m. on June 25. The suspect is a black female about 4-foot-10 and 84 pounds.

A locked silver, black and purple specialized hybrid bicycle was stolen at 5 p.m. on June 24 on the 1500 block of Sherman Avenue.

A bicycle was stolen off a sidewalk at 3:50 p.m. on June 24 at the corner of Oak Avenue and Lake Street.

 

Vandalism

Joseph A. Honorow, 27, of Skokie was arrested and charged with criminal damage to city property at Harbert Park at 11 p.m. on June 24 on the 2400 block of Dempster Street. His court date is set for Aug. 19.

Someone sprayed graffiti on a no-parking sign in an alley of the 1000 block of South Boulevard at 10:45 a.m. on June 24.

A business was tagged with black spray paint between 4 p.m. on June 20 and 8 a.m. on June 21 on the 1600 block of Central Street.

 

Domestic Battery

A 22-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 10:30 p.m. on June 26 on the 500 block of Sherman Avenue. His court date is set for July 6.

A 33-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 3:15 p.m. on June 23 at the Evanston Police Station. His court date is set for July 6.

 

Man with Gun/Shots Fired

A man reportedly waved a gun around and fired it into the air at 10:25 p.m on June 25 at the corner of Lyons Street and Dodge Avenue.

Gunshots were heard at the corner of Leland Avenue and Church Street at 3:02 a.m. on June 25.

 

Public Urination

Tae Wha Seong, 23, of Evanston was arrested and charged with public urination at 1:50 a.m. on June 25 on the 1500 block of Sherman Avenue. A court date is set for July 19.

 

Marijuana Possession

A 17-year-old Evanston resident and a 17-year-old Skokie resident were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 5:47 p.m. on June 24 on the 2000 block of Wesley Avenue.

A 16-year-old Skokie resident was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 9 p.m. on June 24 on the 1600 block of Davis Street.

 

Driving without a License

Jennifer M. Branham, 31, of Chicago was charged with driving without a valid license at 5:23 p.m. on June 25 on the 1600 block of Chicago Avenue. His court date is set for Aug. 5.

Juan A. Ongay, 38, of Evanston was charged with driving without a valid license at 10 p.m. on June 24 on the intersection of South Boulevard and Ridge Avenue. His court date is set for July 29.

 

Fake ID

Jason L. Dong, 19, of Evanston was arrested and charged with using a false identification at 1:30 a.m. on June 26 on the 1900 block of Sherman Avenue. His court date is set for Aug. 2.
