Police Blotter June 28: Woman Allegedly Lures Man into Alley to Be Robbed; Man Arrested on Battery Charge at Hospital
A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.
The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Robbery

Police said a man was led into an alley by a woman and then attacked by two men who stole his wallet and $250 cash at 1:40 a.m. on June 27 on the 300 block of Ridge Avenue. The man said a black woman with a light complexion wearing a white shirt and blue jeans led him into the alley, asking him if he wanted to smoke pot and party. Once in the alley, the woman and the two men hit him on the face, knocking him unconscious and stealing his wallet. They then took off in a dark older model SUV and drove south toward Chicago.

Battery
A discharged patient allegedly assaulted a public safety officer at the St. Francis Hospital on the 300 block of Ridge Avenue at 8:10 p.m. on June 26. Edward G. Hinton, 42, of Evanston was arrested and charged with battery at 8:18 p.m. Police said hospital security asked him to leave, but he refused. He allegedly took a swing at the public safety officer but missed before grabbing the officer and scratching his face. The officer then detained Hinton with pepper spray and restrained him until police arrived. Hinton's court date is set for Aug. 5.
A woman allegedly attacked a coworker in the parking lot of the business at 12:43 a.m. on June 27 on the 3200 block of Grant Street. The suspect is an Asian woman about 5-foot-3 and 120 pounds.
Burglary
Burglars broke into a medical office on the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue, damaging the door and stealing cash between 5:45 p.m. on June 24 and 8 a.m. on June 27.
A burglar went into an unlocked apartment and stole a purse between 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on June 26 on the 1200 block of Elmwood Avenue.
A burglar stole a key out of a YMCA locker and used it to open a second locker and steal cash, a silver Apple iPod Shuffler music player and a black and silver Blackberry cell phone between 9:20 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on June 27 on the 1000 block of Grove Street.
A wallet was stolen out of a secured locker at L.A. Fitness between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. on June 26 on the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue.
Someone ransacked the inside of a 2001 Subaru between 7:30 p.m. on June 26 and 8:45 a.m. on June 27 on the 1300 block of Greenwood Street, but nothing was taken.
An intruder tried to open the door of a business on the 1200 block of Chicago at 1:45 p.m. on June 27.
Theft
A silver 2010 Volkswagen Jetta was stolen off the street at 6:15 p.m. on June 26 on the 1500 block of Greenwood Street.
A man allegedly stole Enfamil baby formula from the Jewel grocery store on the 2400 block of Howard Street at 7:31 p.m. on June 27. Christopher L. Custodio, 21, of Chicago was arrested and charged with retail theft at 7:40 p.m. His court date is set for July 22.
Two backpacks were stolen after they were left on the back porch of a homeless shelter on the 1200 block of Church Street between May 25 and June 27. The backpacks contained a white MacBook laptop computer and clothing.
A pickpocket unzipped a woman's purse and snatched a wallet at noon on June 26 at Target on the 2200 block of Howard Street.
A locked bright blue 19-inch Marin bicycle was stolen off a rack at 6:30 a.m. on June 25 on the 1400 block of Chicago Avenue.
Vandalism
The windshield of a 1996 Toyota was shattered between 12:01 a.m. and 4:01 a.m. on June 27 on the 800 block of Seward Street.
Someone dented the driver-side door of a 2011 Volkswagen at 8 p.m. on June 26 on the 600 block of Custer Avenue.
The rear passenger-side and front driver-side tires of a 1997 Nissan were slashed in an apartment building parking lot between 9 p.m. on June 16 and 7 a.m. on June 27. The vandals also slashed a tire of a 2001 Chevrolet, a 1992 Isuzu and a 1999 Toyota as well as three tires off a 1999 Chevrolet and a 2002 Chevrolet.
An alley was marked up with a yellow marker at 3:05 p.m. on June 17 on the 500 block of Hinman Avenue.
Trespassing
David M. Pringle, 55, of Evanston was arrested and charged with trespassing at 1:19 a.m. on June 27 at the Shell station on the 100 block of Ridge Avenue. His court date is set for July 29.
Domestic Battery
A 53-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at noon on June 25 on the 800 block of Clark Street. His court date is set for July 7.
Driving without a License
Karen J. Escobar, 20, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a license at 1:30 p.m. on June 23 on the 1200 block of Ridge Avenue. Her court date is set for Aug. 5.
Cassidy J. Hays, 20, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a license at 12:21 a.m. on June 27 on the 600 block of Howard Street. Her court date is set for Aug. 5.
Vallan K. A. Francis, 18, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a license at 10:45 p.m. on June 27 on the 600 block of Howard Street. A court date is set for July 22.
Aaron D. Olson, 31, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a license at 8:45 p.m. on June 24 at the Evanston Police Station. His court date is set for Aug. 5.
Alcohol Violation
Shawn L. Raymond, 19, of Evanston was arrested and charged with violating an Evanston alcohol ordinance at 5:08 p.m. on June 27 on the 100 block of Custer Avenue. His court date is set for July 19.
