Police Blotter June 29: Police Say Three Men Stole Bikes; Man Charged with Damaging Flower Pots

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Theft

Three men allegedly removed locks and stole two Schwinn bicycles from an alley of the 1700 block of Chicago Avenue at 5:45 p.m. on June 27. Police arrested Bendjy Bacette-Wood, 20, of Evanston; Darnell D. Clay, 20, of Evanston and Lesean Vaughters, 21, of Evanston. All three were charged with theft. Their court date is set for July 29.

Two men stole a bottle of Grey Goose vodka and a bottle of Blue Bombay gin at 5:30 p.m. on June 27 at Food 4 Less on the 2400 block of Main Street. The suspects are black men about 5-foot-8 and 150 pounds.

A purple Dell laptop computer was stolen after it was left unattended in the rear stairwell of an apartment building on the 1000 block of Main Street between 12:01 a.m. and 1:30 a.m.

A man allegedly used a spare key to enter an apartment and steal a Playstation gaming system between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on June 28 on the 700 block of Monroe Street. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-7 and 170 pounds.

Two children's red and yellow bicycles were stolen out of an apartment building parking lot on the 1100 block of Maple Avenue between 12:55 a.m. and 4:05 a.m. on June 28.

A man and a woman stole food from the Dominick's grocery store on the 1900 block of Dempster Street at 11:11 a.m. on June 28. The suspects are a couple, the man was about 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds and the woman was 5-foot-5 and 160 pounds.

A man tried to steal a black duffle bag from a fraternity club on the 1700 block of Hinman Avenue at 1:10 p.m. on June 28, but when a witness approached the thief, he dropped the bag and ran.

 

Vandalism

A man allegedly damaged flower pots at 7:44 p.m. on June 28 on the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue. Adnan Ebanks, 24, of Evanston was arrested and charged with criminal damage at 7:48 p.m. Kyndrick D. Lindsey, 25, of Evanston was also arrested in relation to this case at 8:21 p.m. on the 1800 block of Brown Avenue and charged with resisting arrest and obstruction of justice. Their court date is set for July 22.

A 13-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with criminal damage at 7:48 p.m. on June 28 on the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue.

 

Burglary

A burglar entered an unlocked garage and stole a blue K2 Title Nine bycle, a gray and silver Trek 7200FX bicycle and a hybrid Giant bicycle between 5 p.m. on June 19 and 4 p.m. on June 24 on the 800 block of Madison Street.

A burglar stole a Nintendo Wii gaming system with some games out of an unlocked 2009 Nissan parked on the street between 10:45 a.m. on June 27 and 8:30 a.m. on June 28 on the 1300 block of Oak Avenue.

Police said two men stole cash out of an unlocked 2002 Cadillac at 4 a.m. on June 28 in an apartment building parking lot on the 1100 block of Maple Avenue.

Cash, a Sony digital camera, and a pink GPS device were stolen out of an unlocked 2010 Chevrolet at 5:19 a.m. on June 28 on the 1000 block of Crain Street.

Police say two men stole a gray and silver Garmin GPS device from an unlocked 2003 Saab between 3:55 a.m. and 4:05 a.m. on June 28 on the 1100 block of Maple Avenue.

A burglar broke out the front passenger window of a 2009 Honda and stole a set of keys between 12:01 a.m. on June 27 and 9:26 a.m. on June 28 on the 1300 block of Maple Avenue.

Someone entered an unlocked 2004 Toyota between 7:45 p.m. on June 27 and 5:15 a.m. on June 28 on the 1000 block of Maple Avenue. Nothing was reported taken.

A man was spotted breaking into a 2002 Toyota in a parking lot at 12:26 a.m. on June 28 on the 2000 block of Dewey Avenue. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-6.

 

Domestic Battery

A 52-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 4:30 p.m. on June 27 at the Evanston Police Station.

A 19-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 2:45 p.m. on June 27 on the 2000 block of Dodge Avenue. His court date is set for July 6.

 

Arrest Warrant

Shane Campbell, 23, of Evanston was arrested on a warrant at 9:10 p.m. on June 27 on the 600 block of South Boulevard. His court date is set for July 22.

Steven E. Gutierrez, 47, of Racine, Wis., was arrested on a pair of warrants at 12:30 a.m. on June 26 on the 1200 block of Chicago Avenue.

Daniel W. Jorash, 47, of Evanston was arrested on a warrant at 12:10 p.m. on June 24 on the 2400 block of Central Street.

 

Drug Possession

Alfred E. Bonner, 25, of Evanston was arrested and charged with drug possession at 5:45 p.m. on June 27 on the 600 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for July 18.

Daniel L. Starling, 29, of Evanston was arrested and charged with drug possession at 5:22 p.m. on June 26 on the 300 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for July 18.

 

Shots Fired

Gun shots were reported on the corner of Lake Street and Grey Avenue at 12:01 a.m. on June 28.
