Police Blotter June 30: Banjos and Guitars Stolen from Apartment; Wilmette Teen Charged with Stealing PBR, Vodka

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Burglary

A musician lost $5,700 worth of equipment, including three acoustic guitars and two banjos. They were stolen from his apartment on the 1000 block of Hull Terrace between May 25 and June 29 while he was out of town.

A burglar entered a house on the 1600 block of Kirk Street through a side window and stole sapphire, pearl and gold jewelry between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on June 29.

A burglar threw a rock to break the rear passenger window of a car between 12:01 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on June 29 on the 2400 block of Bradley Place. Once inside, the thief stole a black Pioneer car stereo and a silver and purple Apple iPod music player.

A silver and blue Schwinn bicycle was stolen from a storage locker between noon on June 19 and 7:30 a.m. on June 27 on the 700 block of Ridge Avenue.

A 1995 Ford was left unlocked in an alley and a burglar stole a Garmin GPS device from the car between 8 p.m. on June 27 and 9:45 p.m. on June 28 on the 1600 block of Ridge Avenue.

 

Theft

A man allegedly stole a fifth of Absolut pear vodka and a six pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon from the Dominick's on the 2700 block of Green Bay Road at 9:36 p.m. on June 28. Guy H. Marshall, 19, of Wilmette was arrested and charged with retail theft. Police said Dominick's security caught him on camera stuffing the vodka in his pants before walking out the store holding the PBR in his wrist. The alcohol was valued at $38. His court date is set for Aug. 10.

A man reportedly stole a lighter shaped like a gun from the Shell gas station on the 2400 block of Oakton Street at 8:11 p.m. on June 29. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-8 and 150 pounds.

A girl allegedly stole medical supplies from a medical office on the 1000 block of Central Street at 3:25 p.m. on June 29. A 13-year-old Evanston girl was arrested and charged with theft.

A rug was stolen from the back of a Toyota pickup truck between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on June 29 on the 1200 block of Church Street. It reportedly really tied the room together.

An unlocked blue Giant road bicycle was stolen from a lawn on the 900 block of Hinman Avenue between 8:45 p.m. and 9 p.m. on June 28.

A black iPhone with a red case was stolen from a desk at a business on the 900 block of Chicago Avenue at noon on June 28.

 

Mob Action

A 15-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with mob action at 6:30 p.m. on June 28 on the 1900 block of Dodge Avenue.

 

Vandalism

Someone keyed the passenger side of a 2007 Chevrolet between 11 p.m. on June 28 and 8 a.m. on June 29 on the 2000 block of Maple Avenue.

Someone sprayed graffiti on the sidewalk on the 1600 block of Dempster Street at 10:51 a.m. on June 29.

 

Domestic Battery

A 40-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 8:45 a.m. on June 28 at the Evanston Police Station. His court date is set for July 6.

 

Trespassing

A man was allegedly trespassing on private property on the 1000 block of Dodge Avenue at 6:55 p.m. on June 28. Mikul N. E. Ganges, 41, of Evanston was arrested and charged with criminal trespass. His court date is set for July 13.

 

Driving without a License

Jose A. Benitez-Gordoa, 33, of Skokie was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 5:45 p.m. on June 28 at the Evanston Police Station. His court date is set for July 12.

Oscar R. Morales, 40, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 11:29 p.m. on June 29 on the 1100 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for Aug. 10.

 

Contributing to Delinquency of Minor

Veretta L. Stewart, 44, of Evanston was arrested and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor at 3:25 p.m. on June 29 on the 1000 block of Central Street. Her court date is set for July 8.
