Police Blotter June 9: Spitter Reported on Church Street; Cash Stolen from Retirement Home

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Battery

Someone was spit on by a stranger in a 2000 BMW at 11:40 a.m. on June 7 on the 800 block of Church Street. The suspect is a white man about 5-foot-8 and 145 pounds.

Burglary

Someone stole cash from a retirement home between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on June 7 on the 1600 block of Chicago Avenue.

Burglars broke out a back-door window on a house on the 2000 block of Seward Street and stole a 32-inch Dynex television, an Apple iPod music player and some cash between 8:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. on June 8.

A burglar broke out a passenger window on a 1999 Plymouth in the parking lot of Home Depot  and stole a purse. It happened between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. on June 8 on the 2200 block of Oakton Street.

A burglar broke out some glass and unlocked the deadbolt to a house on the 900 block of Grey Avenue, but nothing was taken. It happened between 7:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on June 8.

 

Theft

Some potting planters were stolen from a lawn on the 2500 block of Marcy Avenue between 4 p.m. on June 4 and 8 a.m. on June 5.

 

Domestic Battery

A 43-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 9:48 p.m. on June 7 on the 1800 block of Hovland Court. His court date is set for June 29.

A 36-year-old Evanston woman was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 8:35 a.m. on June 8 on the 1800 block of Dodge Avenue. Her court date is set for June 15.

 

Vandalism

A garage was sprayed with graffiti between 12:01 a.m. on June 4 and 11:59 p.m. on June 7 on the 1000 block of Michigan Avenue.

 

Marijuana Possession

Thomas R. Harrs, 20, of Skokie was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 4:30 p.m. on June 8 on the 1100 block of McDaniel Avenue. His court date is set for June 29.

Derrek P. Sorensen, 20, of Morton Grove was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 12:51 a.m. on June 8 on the 2600 block of Sheridan Road. His court date is set for June 27.

 

Driving without a License

Victor A. Alfaro-Franco, 28, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 11:30 a.m. on June 6 at the intersection of Oakton Street and Asbury Avenue. His court date is set for July 12.
