Police Blotter March 14: Two Arrested at Downtown Burger King; Woman Steals Blonde Wig

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Theft

A woman and her boyfriend were arrested at the downtown Burger King on Friday afternoon after a theft at a book store on the 700 block of Clark Street. Police said a clerk at the bookstore saw Jenny B. Hameed, 38, of Evanston steal a jersey, a hat and some gloves. The clerk called police and followed her to Burger King where he said Hameed and her boyfriend, Gregory L. Lord, 42, of Evanston were trying to sell the items. When police arrived, they said Lord was hiding the items in a bag under his feet. Lord was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property at 1:20 p.m. on March 11 on the 1700 block of Orrington Avenue. Hameed was arrested and charged with retail theft. Their court date is set for April 14.

A woman was caught on camera stealing a blonde wig from a store on the 700 block of Howard Street at 5 p.m. on March 11. She was described as a black woman in her 30s with short red braids. She wore a gray sweatshirt.

A pair of juveniles entered a store on the 2700 block of Green Bay Road and stole four or five bottles of liquor between 4:10 p.m. and 4:17 p.m. on March 11.

A silver Apple laptop computer was stolen from the children's section of the Evanston Public Library between 2:15 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. on March 11 on the 1700 block of Orrington Avenue.

A thief opened an unlocked locker and stole a wallet, a pair of Adidas sweatpants and an Adidas T-shirt between 7 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. on March 12 on the 1000 block of Grove Street.

A thief opened a package in a hallway on the 1200 block of Elmwood Avenue and removed a purple sleeveless T-shirt from the box between 2:41 p.m. and 6:37 p.m. on March 11.

 

Burglary

A burglar came into a home through an unlocked window and removed a purse between 11 p.m. on March 10 and 7 a.m. on March 11 on the 1000 block of Asbury Avenue.

A burglar used a pry tool to break into a 2007 Chevy van and steal a satellite receiver and some tools between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. on March 13 on the 1700 block of Dempster Street.

A burglar entered a garage on the 800 block of Monroe Street between March 9 and March 11 and stole an 18-speed Schwinn women's bike.

A burglar entered a property on the 300 block of Wesley Avenue and stole two stove grates at 2:30 a.m. on March 12.

 

Criminal Damage to Property

Vandals drove up in a dark SUV and smashed out the windows of a 1999 Chevrolet with a brick at 11:19 p.m. on March 12 on the 1800 block of Brummel Street.

Vandals in a dark SUV drove up to a 2000 Cadillac and smashed the windshield at 11:37 p.m. on March 12 on the 800 block of Sherman Avenue.

Vandals used a brick to break the side mirror and dent the driver's door of a 2007 Toyota between 12:01 a.m. and 10 a.m. on March 13 on the 1300 block of Madison Street.

Someone broke the windows of a 2002 Chevrolet with a brick at 7:48 a.m. on March 13 on the 800 block of Elmwood Avenue.

 

Trespassing

Vashaun R. Jackson, 21, of Evanston was arrested and charged with criminal trespass to residence at 10:35 a.m. on March 11 at St. Francis Hospital on the 300 block of Ridge Avenue. His court date is set for March 28.

Ira Eleazer, 63, of Evanston was arrested and charged with trespassing at Dominick's at 9:36 p.m. on March 12 on the 2700 block of Green Bay Road. His court date is set for March 28.

Jamal J. Washington, 18, of Chicago was arrested and charged with trespassing at a Subway restaurant at 7:46 p.m. on March 12 on the 300 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for March 28.

 

Driving under the Influence

Peter G. Athans, 43, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 9 p.m. on March 12 at the intersection of Emerson Street and Grey Avenue. His court date is set for March 28.

Angel F. Castillo, 19, of Vernon Hills was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 2:16 a.m. on March 12 on the 500 block of Dodge Avenue. A court date is set for April 14.

 

Disorderly Conduct

Anthony M. Parks, 21, of Evanston was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct at 5:48 p.m. on March 13 on the 1800 block of Hovland Court. His court date is set for April 28.

 

Public Urination

Patrick J. Gordon, 46, of Evanston was arrested and charged with urinating in public at the Evanston Public Library at 4:45 p.m. on March 12 on the 1700 block of Orrington Avenue. His court date is set for April 11.

 

Possession of Marijuana

Terrell L. Fort, 18, of Chicago was arrested and charged with marijuana possession at 9 p.m. on March 13 on the 300 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for April 11.

 

Driving without a License

Anita M. Arterberry, 35, of Skokie was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 10:57 p.m. on March 10 on the 300 block of Ridge Avenue. Her court date is set for April 21.

Brandy M. Harrison, 24, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 11:05 a.m. on March 11 on the 300 block of Sheridan Road. Her court date is set for March 31.

Noelia Little, 32, of Cane Ridge, Tenn., was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 9:34 a.m. on March 11 on the 600 block of Dempster Street. Her court date is set for April 14.

Michael Mayfield, 53, of Melrose Park was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 6:24 p.m. on March 11 on the 1200 block of Chicago Avenue. His court date is set for April 4.

Paul V. McGee, 56, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 6:13 p.m. on March 11 on the 1200 block of Emerson Street. His court date is set for March 29.

James E. Mitchell, 31, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 3:45 p.m. on March 11 on the 1600 block of Wesley Avenue. His court date is set for March 31.

Carlos E. Soto, 20, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 2:26 a.m. on March 12 on the 500 block of Dodge Avenue.

Gabriela Urias, 22, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 3:05 a.m. on March 12 on the 800 block of Dodge Avenue. Her court date is set for April 4.

Donna M. Walker, 45, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 6:53 p.m. on March 12 on the 800 block of Howard Avenue. Her court date is set for April 14.

William B. Wideman, 31, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 12:55 a.m. on March 11 on the 1900 block of Dewey Avenue. His court date is set for March 31.

A 17-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 3:14 a.m. on March 13 on the 1400 block of Dodge Avenue.

A 16-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 11:20 a.m. on March 12 at the intersection of Ashland Avenue and Payne Street.

 

Graffiti

A basement entry door was marked up with graffiti between 5 p.m. on March 11 and 8:30 a.m. on March 12 on the 1300 block of Central Street.

The east elevator of a building was vandalized with graffiti on the 1700 block of Orrington Avenue between 5 p.m. on March 10 and 9 a.m. on March 11.
