Police Blotter March 22: Arrests Made for Vandalism, Shoplifting at Jewel on Howard

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Theft

Ira J. Anderson, 60, of Evanston was arrested and charged with retail theft at 6:01 p.m. on March 19 at Jewel-Osco on the 2400 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for March 29.

A man filled a bag with body wash and attempted to leave the CVS/pharmacy on the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue without paying, but when he was approached by a CVS employee, he dropped the bag and fled at 1 p.m. on March 21. The thief was described as a 5-foot-10 black man who weighed 170 pounds. He wore a black and green puffy coat, black jeans and black shoes.

Someone stole the hubcaps off a 2004 Cadillac between 1 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. on March 20 on the 2100 block of Central Street.

Someone ripped the brass street numbers off the front of an apartment complex on March 20 on the 500 block of Greenwood Street.

 

Criminal Damage to Property

Nicole Y. Means, 28, of Evanston was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property at 4:51 a.m. on March 20 on the 900 block of Main Street. Her court date is set for April 13.

A 2006 Chevrolet was found keyed at 6:30 p.m. on March 20 in the parking lot of Target on the 2200 block of Howard Street.

 

Burglary

Burglars entered a home by breaking out a kitchen window between 11 a.m. on March 18 and 5:30 p.m. on March 20 on the 1700 block of Washington Street. Once inside, they ransacked the interior and stole a silver Dell laptop computer, 18 bottles of wine, two R.E.I. duffle bags and cash.

Someone broke into a 2006 Toyota and stole a Nikon Coolpix 4600 digital camera between 4 p.m.on March 19 and 9:15 a.m. on March 20 on the 2500 block of Harrison Street.

Someone stole a pair of sunglasses from a 2006 Toyota while it was parked on the street on the 1200 block of Elmwood Avenue between 6 p.m. on March 19 and 9 p.m. on March 20.

Four teenage boys tried to kick in the basement door of a house on the 1500 block of Emerson Street, but they were stopped by a man working in the area at 12:07 p.m. on March 21.

A burglar tried to break into a 2008 Volkswagen with a pry tool while it was parked on the street on the 1000 block of Greenwood Street between 7 p.m. on March 20 and 8:45 a.m. on March 21.

 

Disobeying a Police Officer

William D. Gentle, 31, of Chicago was arrested and charged with disobeying a police officer at 6:01 p.m. on March 21 on the 100 block of Custer Avenue. His court date is set for April 11.

 

Domestic Battery

A 21-year-old Evanston woman was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 4:54 p.m. on March 19 on the 200 block of Ridge Avenue. Her court date is set for March 30.

A 55-year-old Evanston woman was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 1:26 a.m. on March 20 on the 500 block of Sheridan Road. Her court date is set for April 6.

 

Driving without a License

Herchell A. Geoff, 27, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 6:01 p.m. on March 21 on the 100 block of Custer Avenue. His court date is set for May 3.

Rueda M. Gregorio, 55, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 10:32 a.m. on March 21 on the 3100 block of Colfax Avenue. His court date is set for April 14.

Rebecca L. Haughin, 21, of Aurora was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 10 a.m. on March 22 at the intersection of Asbury Avenue and Howard Street. Her court date is set for April 14.

Ana B. Lopez, 42, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 10 a.m. on March 22 at the intersection of Asbury Avenue and Howard Street. Her court date is set for April 14.

Erika Rafaela, 22, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 9:35 a.m. on March 20 on the 1100 block of Ridge Avenue. Her court date is set for April 29.

Tiara D. Simmons, 33, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 5:45 p.m. on March 18. Her court date is set for April 28.

 

Graffiti

Vandals tagged an apartment building with gold marker between 5 p.m. on March 1 and 5 p.m. on March 21 on the 500 block of Chicago Avenue.
