Police Blotter March 24: Woman Reports Home Intruder; Patron Damages Parking Gate

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Home Burglary

A woman left her house in the 800 block of Hartrey Avenue at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, believing all the doors were locked. When she returned at 8:30 p.m., she saw a light complexion black man standing in her living room. She told police that the intruder was wearing dark pants, a dark hoodie and a white T-shirt. The man fled out a side door when he saw her. The resident did not report anything missing and said the intruder might have gain entry through an unlocked window.

Garage Gate Damage

The driver of a Chevy Cavalier tried to leave a parking garage at 2:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 800 block of Davis Street without paying and ended up damaging the gate. The offenders were known to the garage supervisor, who saw the passenger get out of the car and attempt to lift the gate so the car could pass through. The passenger ended up dislodging the gate, but the car still couldn't get through. So the driver paid the meter and drove off before police arrived. According to the  police report, the driver was described as a black man, about 6-foot and weighing about 170 pounds. His passenger was also a black man.
