Police Blotter March 29: Vandal Throws Brick Through Mosque Window; Vodka Stolen from Food 4 Less

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Vandalism

Someone threw a brick through the window of the Dar-us-Sunnah Mosque on the 2000 block of Brown Avenue on March 27. Police said a patrol officer noticed the broken window on the Simpson Street side of the building when passing by. A key holder to the building found a brick and glass inside the mosque, but nothing was taken and no one appeared to enter the building.

Shelton L. Bell, 36, of Evanston was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property at noon on March 26 on the 1900 block of Dodge Avenue. Police said he damaged a vehicle during a domestic dispute. His court date is set for March 30.

Several windows were broken out at a property on the 1700 block of Simpson Street between 8:30 p.m. on March 26 and 11 a.m. on March 27.

Someone scratched a 2010 Dodge and poured an unknown liquid on the vehicle while it was parked in the victim's designated parking spot on the 600 block of Main Street between 7:15 a.m. and 5:50 p.m. on March 28.

Someone threw a rock through the back window of a 2010 Acura that was parked on the street on the 1800 block of Greenwood Avenue between 5 p.m. and 5:40 p.m. on March 28.

 

Theft

Two men stole at least three bottles of Prestige vodka from Food 4 Less on the 2400 block of Main Street at 10:29 a.m. on March 28. The vodka sells for about $8 a bottle. The thieves were described as black men in their 20s who were about 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds. One wore a red cap and the other wore a blue cap and a blue jacket with yellow stripes. They were caught on camera taking off in a black 2005 Chrysler sedan.

A woman found a letter in her mailbox had been opened and the inside papers were missing on March 26 on the 700 block of Wesley Avenue.

A cell phone was stolen from a desk on the 900 block of Ashland Avenue between 12:45 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. on March 28.

 

Burglary

Someone came into a 1998 Lincoln between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. on March 26 on the 600 block of Howard Street and stole a Garmin GPS device, a Garmin charger, a tag bag and some medicine.

Someone stole cash from an unlocked 2004 Toyota between 8 p.m. on March 26 and 3 p.m.on March 27 on the 2200 block of Harrison Street.

 

Domestic Battery

A 27-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a knife during a domestic dispute at 6:15 a.m. on March 26 on the 1900 block of Grant Street. His court date is set for March 30.

A 21-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 1:01 a.m. on March 28 on the 500 block of Sherman Avenue. His court date is set for April 6.

 

Driving without a License

Lisa K. Lackey, 50, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 9:15 a.m. on March 26 on the 7500 block of North Clark Street in Chicago. Her court date is set for May 5.

Jamie R. Ranger, 28, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 4:30 p.m. on March 26 at the intersection of Brown Avenue and Simpson Street. A court date is set for April 28.

Earl Staples, 37, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 4:45 p.m. on March 27 at the intersection of Callan Avenue and South Boulevard. His court date is set for May 3.

 

Shots Fired

Three gun shots were reported at 8:12 a.m. on the 900 block of Grey Avenue on March 28.

 

Graffiti

Someone scribbled a marker on a wall on the 1600 block of Simpson Street on March 28.
