Police Blotter March 9: House Burglarized on South Boulevard, Thief Caught at Home Depot

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Burglary

A house was ransacked in the 600 block of South Boulevard on Tuesday, and $4,500 worth of goods were stolen. The burglars busted down the back door sometime between 10:30 a.m. and when the resident returned home at 4:15 p.m. They stole two Hewlett-Packard laptop computers, a Nintendo Wii gaming system, a Nintendo DS gaming system and two X-Box gaming systems, as well as games and controllers. They also stole four gold necklaces.

Thieves entered a locked area of a property between 3:30 p.m. on March 4, and 7 a.m. on March 5 and stole rolls of copper wire in the 2100 block of Sheridan Road.

Theft

A Chicago man was accused of stealing a spool of wire from Home Depot on Tuesday morning. Police said Gennadiy Golgopyat, 23, entered the store in the 2200 block of Oakton Street at about 10:30 a.m. He walked to the wire section and was allegedly seen removing the bar code on a $11 spool of wire and replacing it on a $54 spool of wire. He then proceeded to the self check-out line and paid $11 for the two spools. According to the report, police said Golgopyat was caught on camera and detained at the exit by security. His court date is set for April 4.

A green 2000 Ford Explorer was stolen between 7:55 a.m. and 1:15 p.m., on March 8 in the 1600 block of Maple Avenue. The owner of the SUV said he left the doors unlocked and a spare set of keys in the center console.

A SA135 Toshiba laptop was stolen while its owner was sleeping between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. in the 1700 block of Orrington Avenue.

A woman left her Apple iPhone unattended in a bag and it was stolen between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on March 7 in the 1000 block of Grove Street.

 

Battery

Dejuantel M. Hickman, 30, of Evanston was arrested and charged with battery at 4 a.m. on May 8 in the 500 block of Hinman Avenue. Hicman allegedly assaulted a police officer during a domestic dispute. His court date is set for March 15.

 

Domestic Battery

A 53-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 10:40 p.m. on March 7 in the 2000 block of Keeney Street. His court date is set for March 16.

An 85-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 4:30 a.m. on March 8 in the 1600 block of Central Street. His court date is set for March 16.

 

Criminal Damage to Property

The windshield of a 2001 Dodge was smashed between midnight and 5 a.m. on March 8 in the 1700 block of Orrington Avenue.

The tires of a 2004 Cadillac were slashed and the side of the car was keyed while it was parked in the 2400 block of Lee Street, sometime between 6 p.m. on March 5 and 5 p.m. on March 8.

A 2001 Subaru was egged while it was parked in the 2000 block of Keeney Street between midnight and 6:30 a.m. on March 7.

A 2006 Land Rover was egged while it was parked in the 2000 block of Keeney Street between midnight and 6 a.m. on March 7.

 

Driving Under the Influence

Jay A. Tanaka, 27, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 3:34 a.m. on March 8 in the 1100 block of Simpson Street. His court date is set for March 21.

 

Disturbing the Peace

Devol L. Wells, 21, of Des Plaines was arrested and charged with disturbing the peace at 12:37 a.m. on March 8 in the 1200 block of Oakton Street. His court date is set for March 23.

 

Driving without a License

Tonisha C. Barton, 23, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 3:19 p.m. in March 7 on the 1900 block of Oakton Street. Her court date is set for April 4.

James C. Heard, 19, of Wilmette was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 9 a.m. on March 8 in the 1200 block of Central Street. His court date is set for May 4.

Dewonna L. Logan, 25, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 2:51 p.m. on March 7 in the 1600 block of Simpson Street. Her court date is set for March 28.

Melissa J. Virgies, 30, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 4:35 p.m. on March 7 at the intersection of Emerson Street and McCormick Boulevard. Her court date is set for March 28.
