Police Blotter May 12: Two Students Robbed at Evanston Township High School

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Robbery

Two boys robbed another boy on the third floor of Evanston Township High School at 3:30 p.m. on May 11 on the 1600 block of Dodge Avenue. The victim told police they pushed him to the wall, causing him to fall to the floor. They then said, “Give me that cell phone!” He handed over the phone, and they fled with his Blackberry Curve phone, worth $300. The boys were described as black males in their late teens. One was 6-foot-1 and 250 pounds; the other was 6-foot-6 and 175 pounds. One wore red shorts and a white shirt; the other wore a white shirt and blue jeans.

The same two boys allegedly robbed another male student at 10:20 a.m. on May 11 at Evanston Township High School on the 1600 block of Dodge Avenue. This boy was shoved up against his locker and knocked to the floor in a chokehold from behind. They said, “Come on, get that phone,” then took his Apple iPhone out of his front jeans pocket before fleeing. That phone is worth $400. Neither victim was injured.

Assault

Three men allegedly assaulted someone in Butler Park on the 2000 block of Grey Avenue at 5:51 p.m. on May 10. The suspects are two black men, one about 5-foot-10 and 150 pounds, the other 6-foot tall and 185 pounds. The third man is of an unknown race, height and weight. William N. Perkins was arrested in connection with this incident and charged with aggravated assault at 5:51 p.m. on May 10 on the 1900 block of Grey Avenue. His court date is set for June 14.

Prentice F. Phillips, 46, of Evanston was arrested and charged with battery at 9:20 a.m. on May 10 on the 1700 block of Orrington Avenue. His court date is set for June 27.

A man allegedly hit someone in the street on the 1800 block of Hovland Court at 6:14 p.m. on May 10. Evan Spaulding, 19, of Evanston was arrested and charged with battery at 6:15 p.m. on May 10 on the 2000 block of Emerson Street. His court date is set for June 6.

A 16-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with battery at 6:59 p.m. on May 10 on the 1000 block of Dodge Avenue.

 

Burglary

Burglars broke out a back window of a house between 7:15 a.m. and 10 p.m. on May 10 on the 1500 block of Mulford Street and stole a bronze Hewlett-Packard laptop computer, watches, rings, cash, a silver Sony digital camera anda 35-millimeter Minolta camera.

Burglars came into an apartment through an unlocked door between 4 p.m. on May 7 and 10:30 a.m. on May 11 on the 500 block of Kedzie Street and stole a Wolf stove and a subzero refrigerator/freezer.

 

Theft

Steve Sota, 27, of Chicago was arrested and charged with theft of more than $500 at the Skokie Court House at 9 a.m. on April 29. His court date was April 29.

A hat and clothing were stolen at 6:30 p.m. on May 11 on the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue. The suspect is a black man about 6-foot tall and 160 pounds.

 

Obstruction of Justice

Dewitt W. Norris, 20, of Evanston was arrested and charged with obstruction of justice at 6:35 p.m. on May 11 on the 600 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for June 6.

 

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Kenneth Brown, 50, of Evanston was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia at 1:48 a.m. on May 11 on the 1600 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for May 26.

Elisheba J. Morales, 26, of Evanston was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia at 6:10 p.m. on May 10 on the 1700 block of Hartrey Avenue. Her court date is set for May 25.

 

Arrest Warrant

Tomas L. Bloss, 52, of Evanston was arrested on a pair of warrants at 9:07 p.m. on May 9 at the Evanston Police Station. His court date is set for May 24.

D'Artagnan E. Clark-Dennis, 20, of Evanston was arrested on a warrant at 11:16 p.m. on the 100 block of Ashland Avenue.

Marino G. Martinez, 30, of Evanston was arrested on a 2004 warrant at 3:45 p.m. on May 9 on the 1100 block of Dodge Avenue.

 

Marijuana Possession

Isam A. Alamawi, 24, of Chicago was arrested and charged with marijuana possession at 6:10 p.m. on May 10 on the 1700 block of Hartrey Avenue. His court date is set for May 25.

 

Driving without a License

Oscar Ramirez, 20, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 10:24 a.m. on May 11 on the 1000 block of Ridge Court. His court date is set for June 20.

 

Shots Fired

Gun shots were heard at 9:30 p.m. on May 11 on the 1800 block of Hovland Court.
