Police Blotter May 18: Jackhammer Stolen from Home Depot; Man Robbed in Bank Parking Lot

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Robbery

A short male snatched a bag from his victim's hand at 11:50 a.m. on May 17 in the Charter One Bank parking lot on the 1300 block of Howard Street. The victim said he was walking from his car to the bank, carrying an envelope for deposit when a male robber came out of nowhere and grabbed the bag and took off on foot. The robber was about 5-foot-4 and wore a black hoodies and black pants. He stole an unknown amount of cash.

Julian E. Hutchinson, 17, of Evanston was arrested and charged with robbery at 11:05 a.m. on May 16. He was allegedly involved in the strong arm robberies at Evanston Township High School on May 11. His court date is set for June 14.

Theft 

A man reportedly stole a Nakita jackhammer, three bits and a 50-foot extension cord from Home Depot at 4:31 p.m. on May 5 on the 2300 block of Oakton Street. Police said the man returned a rented jackhammer to the store, but lingered and waited till the Home Depot employees weren't looking and stole the jackhammer and accessories. The suspect is a slight Hispanic man about 5-foot-7 and 150 pounds. The incident was not reported to police until 4:48 p.m. on May 17. The retail value of the items totaled $525.

 

Battery

Three men allegedly got into a fight in an alley on the 2100 block of Emerson Street at 11:43 p.m. on May 16 on the 2100 block of Emerson Street. Brad L. Barrett, 21, of Evanston, Dwayne V. Johnson, 20, and Dantrell A. Posey, 25, of Evanston were arrested and charged with battery at 11:45 p.m. Their court date is set for June 6.

 

Burglary

A burglar went into a 1991 Mazda through an unlocked door and stole a wallet and a Tom Tom GPS device between 3:50 p.m. and 3:55 p.m. on May 17 on the 1900 block of Hartrey Avenue.

Someone broke into a 1999 Volkswagen parked on the street and ripped out an Alpine car stereo on the 800 block of Madison Street between 7:30 p.m. on May 16 and 7:30 a.m. on May 17.

Someone broke into a garage with a pry tool at 9:45 p.m. on May 17 on the 1200 block of Dewey Avenue, but nothing was taken. The suspect is a black male about 5-foot-7 and 130 pounds.

 

Vandalism

A window was broken out on the south side of a house on the 1400 block of Pitner Avenue between 10 p.m. on May 16 and noon on May 17. The suspect is a 6-foot-4 black man who weighs about 235 pounds.

Someone broke out a passenger window on a 1999 Chevrolet at 10:30 p.m. on May 17 on the 1900 block of Wesley Avenue.

The front passenger-side tire of a 1999 Chevrolet was slashed at 8:30 p.m. on May 17 on the 1000 block of Grove Street. The suspect is a 6-foot-3 white man.

Someone kicked in a fence beside a house at 7:30 a.m. on May 17 on the 700 block of Dodge Avenue. The suspect is a heavyset white man, about 5-foot-7 and 220 pounds.

 

Marijuana Possession

Kimbrince E. Wallace, 27, of Evanston was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 10:01 p.m. on May 17 on the corner of Dobson Street and Custer Avenue. Her court date is set for June 29.

 

Driving without a License

Anthony D. Logan, 52, of Calumet Park was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 12:15 p.m. on May 17 on the 1500 block of Chicago Avenue. His court date is set for June 20.

Joan P. Rushakoff, 71, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 10:06 p.m. on May 17 on the 100 block of Dodge Avenue. Her court date is set for June 1.
