Police Blotter May 23: 'Celebrity' Thrown off Train; Computer Repairman Charged with Theft

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Disorderly Conduct

A Metra customer was arrested and tossed off a train after he allegedly made threats at the conductors, and shouted at them "I'm a celebrity! I don't have to pay!" Brock M. Duerson, 22, of Evanston was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct at 1:30 p.m. on May 20 on the 900 block of Davis Street. His court date is set for June 6.

Battery

A man allegedly struck someone on the sidewalk at 3:40 a.m. on May 22 on the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue. Marko Shvets, 21, of Park Ridge was arrested and charged with battery. His court date is set for June 8.

 

Burglary

A man was arrested and charged with burglarizing three cars at 6 a.m. on May 20 on the 2400 block of Ridgeway Avenue. Nathan E. Livingston, 24, of Cary, was charged with three counts of trespassing. Allegedly, he swiped a pair of Armani sunglasses and a pair of Ralph Lauren sunglasses from an unlocked 1999 Jeep on the 2400 block of Lawndale Avenue. He then allegedly smashed out a front window of a 1998 Ford and stole the vehicle's owners manual and some cash on the 3000 block of Colfax Street. He also allegedly broke into an unlocked 2008 Nissan at the same location. His court date is set for July 8.

Burglars entered a house through an unlocked door between May 8 and May 18 and stole a Dell Vostro laptop computer and and Apple iPad on the 1700 block of South Boulevard. 

Someone broke into an apartment on the 800 block of Hinman Avenue and stole a Dell Inspirion laptop computer between March 17 and May 17.

Someone went into a house on the 2400 block of Cowper Avenue through an unlocked window between 5:30 p.m. on May 20 and 9:45 p.m. on May 21. Nothing was reported missing.

A man broke into a 2006 Pontiac at 11:35 a.m. on May 20 in a parking lot on the 900 block of Pitner Avenue. Nothing was taken. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-10.

 

Theft

Matthew A. Archer, 23, of Chicago was arrested and charged in connection with a December 7, 2010 theft at 3:32 p.m. on May 20 at the Evanston Police Station. Police said a female acquaintance had lent him a silver Macbook computer to fix but he never brought the items back. She tried to reach his place of work but he was not available. He also allegedly took a Lacie external hard drive and a Canon PowerShot camera. He was arrested after he was asked to come into the police station. His court date is set for June 30.

A 2001 BMW was stolen off the street on the 1300 block of Brummel Street between 8 a.m. and 8:06 a.m. on May 20. The thief had keys to the car.

A pickpocket swiped a Blackberry cell phone and some cash from someone's pocket at 9:14 a.m. on May 19 at Evanston Township High School on the 1600 block of Dodge Avenue.

Two males stole two vintage Schwinn bicycles off a house porch at 12:15 p.m. on May 21 on the 1100 block of Michigan Avenue. One bike was red and the other one blue.

A wallet was stolen from a chain restaurant on the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue at 1 p.m. on May 21.

A bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey was allegedly stolen from the Jewel store on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue at 6:39 a.m. on May 20. Willie J. Jackson, 53, of Evanston was arrested and charged with retail theft. His court date is set for July 22.

A second bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey was allegedly stolen from the Jewel store on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue at 7:44 a.m. on May 20. Scott A. Locke, 28, of Evanston was arrested and charged with retail theft. His court date is set for June 21.

A couple stole a bottle of Smirnoff vodka from the Dominick's store on the 2700 block of Green Bay Road at 8:45 p.m. on May 20. The suspects are a white man about 5-foot-5 and 140 pounds and a white woman about 5-foot-2 and 130 pounds.

A power adapter video accessory was stolen from Target on the 2200 block of Howard Street at 1:20 p.m. on May 20. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-10 and 200 pounds.

Planters were stolen from a lawn on the 1700 block of Leland Avenue between 8 a.m. and noon on May 20.

Two women tried to steal a packet of hair weave from Howard Beauty Supply on the 1100 block of Howard Street at 11 a.m. on May 22. The suspects are two black women, one 5-foot-3 and 220 pounds; the other 5-foot-6 and 170 pounds.

A 3-inch step hitch was stolen off a 2002 Toyota at 9:15 p.m. in the parking lot of Target on the 2200 block of Howard Street on May 22.

A dark gray Cannondale Quick 4 road bicycle was stolen off a rack on the 1000 block of Central Street between 8:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. on May 19.

A black Trek 7-1 Flex bicycle was stolen from an apartment building common area between 9 p.m. on May 20 and 9 a.m. on May 21 on the 300 block of Custer Avenue.

An orange Rampage bicycle was stolen off a rack on the 2400 block of Prairie Avenue between 8:30 a.m. and 3:35 p.m. on May 13.

A yellow, black and silver Maga mountain bicycle was stolen from a lawn on the 2200 block of Foster Avenue at 6:35 a.m. on May 20.

A wheel and tired were stolen off a bike locked to a rack in front of the YMCA on the 1000 block of Grove Street.

A 12-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with shoplifting at Best Buy on the 2300 block of Howard Street at 2:49 p.m. on May 22.

 

Vandalism

Someone sprayed blue and purple paint on the street on the 1500 block of Seward Street. The graffiti was found at 8:50 a.m. on May 20.

The rear side door window of a 2004 Lexus was broken out between 9 a.m. on May 20 and 7 a.m. on May 21 on the 2000 block of Washington Street.

Windows were broken out of a 2010 GMC at 1 a.m. on May 21 on the 3300 block of Park Place.

Someone caused water damage to a house on the 1600 block of Greenwood Street between 8 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. on May 21.

A man damaged a recycling bin in an alley on the 1300 block of Judson Avenue at 1:38 p.m. on May 21. The suspect is a 5-foot-11 Hispanic man.

The passenger's side of a 1999 Dodge along with the trunk were keyed between midnight on May 20 and 3 a.m. on May 21 on the 1900 block of Jackson Avenue. The suspect is a black woman about 5-foot-2 and 280 pounds.

Someone tagged a fence outside a house with purple spray paint between 6 p.m. on May 20 and 2:22 p.m. on May 21 on the 500 block of Barton Avenue.

Purple paint was found sprayed in a parking lot on the 500 block of Elmwood Avenue at 9:50 a.m. on May 22.

Someone found graffiti sprayed in Raymond Park on the 1400 block of Chicago Avenue at 6 p.m. on May 20.

 

Disobedience to Police

Dylan M. Shearer, 20, of Missoula, Mont., was arrested and charged with disobedience to police at 11:08 p.m. on May 20 on the 900 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for June 15.

 

Domestic Battery

A 39-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 7:50 p.m. on May 20 on the 900 block of Hinman Avenue. His court date is set for May 25.

 

Driving under the Influence

Vernonica S. Love, 22, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 1:12 a.m. on May 21 on the 1600 block of Dodge Avenue. Her court date is set for July 5.

 

Arrest Warrant

Emma J. Findley, 31, of Chicago was arrested on a warrant at 7 a.m. on May 20 on the 2100 block of West Howard Street in Chicago.

 

Marijuana Possession

William D. Schulte, 24, of Chicago was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 6:10 p.m. on May 22 on the 600 block of Davis Street. His court date is set for June 29.

 

Driving without a License

Romualdo Luis-Rodriguez, 28, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 8:48 p.m. on May 20 on the 100 block of Ridge Avenue. His court date is set for June 27.

Maurice A. Morris, 37, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 12:13 p.m. on May 20 on the 100 block of Sheridan Road. His court date is set for June 8.

 

Shots Fired

Two gun shots were heard at 9:15 p.m. on May 22 on the 1400 block of Oakton Street.
