Police Blotter May 9: Man Robbed at Gas Station on Chicago; Another Man Robbed at Gunpoint on Fowler

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Robbery

A man was robbed by three men with guns at 2:15 a.m. on May 7 on the 1400 block of Fowler Avenue. The victim said three men in gray hoods came up to him, flashed pistols and demanded his cell phone. He gave them his Boost Mobile phone, worth $300, and then they fled. Police said the victim appeared intoxicated and could not make out a better description of his attackers.

Two men assaulted a man during a robbery attempt in front of the Mobil gas station on the 100 block of Chicago Avenue at 1 p.m. on May 8. One men came up from behind and locked him in a chokehold while the other man punched him several times in the face before going through his pockets for money. But the victim had nothing on him and the two men fled south on Chicago and then west on Howard Street. The suspects were described as black men. One was dark complexioned, 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds and wore a gray sweatshirt and jeans. The other had lighter skin; he was 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds and wore a red flannel shirt and bluejeans.

Battery

Two men were charged with battery on the street on the 1900 block of Wesley Avenue at 10:10 p.m. on May 6. The suspects are black men about 5-foot-10 and 170 pounds.

A man hit someone at a house on the 1900 block of Darrow Avenue at 5:23 p.m. on May 6. The suspect is a black man about 6-foot and 200 pounds.

A Chicago man allegedly hit someone at 1:16 a.m. on May 7 on the 300 block of Howard Street. Kennedy O. Ugiagbe, 45, was arrested and charged with battery. His court date is set for June 8.

 

Burglary

Someone broke into a fraternity house on the 1700 block of Hinman Avenue between 5 p.m. on May 5 and 9 a.m. on May 6 and stole a Hewlett-Packard laptop computer. The suspect is a black man about 6-foot-2.

A man broke into an unlocked 2010 Lexus while it was parked in a driveway on the 700 block of Sheridan Road and stole a black laptop computer power cord and some cash at 2:50 a.m. on May 3.

Someone tried to break into a garage through the overhead door between 9 p.m. on May 5 and 8:30 a.m. on May 6 on the 1300 block of Ashland Avenue.

A burglar broke into an unlocked 2002 BMW parked in a driveway on the 100 block of Burnham Place between 10 p.m. on May 6 and 8 a.m. on May 7.

 

Theft

A pair of Levi's bluejeans, Aeropostale outfits and sweat pants were stolen from an apartment on the 1400 block of Darrow Avenue between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. on May 7. The suspect is a black woman about 5-foot-3 and 110 pounds.

Someone used the keys to a house to break in and steal tiles and cash at 5 p.m. on May 2 on the 1900 block of Emeron Street. The suspect is a white man about 250 pounds.

A Trek mountain bike was found stolen from a storage rack at 7:30 p.m. on May 6 on the 1600 block of Ridge Avenue.

Someone stole a purple 26-inch mountain bike from an apartment common area at 10 p.m. on May 4 on the 2100 block of Ridge Avenue.

A T-Mobile cell phone was stolen from a house on the 1400 block of Pitner Avenue between 2 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. on May 5. The suspect is a man about 5-foot-7 and 150 pounds.

A black apple 3G iPhone was stolen from a grocery on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. on May 8.

Someone stole a black cell phone from an apartment building common area between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on May 4 on the 600 block of Case Place. 

Someone stole from a gas station on the 100 block of Chicago Avenue at 8:53 p.m. on May 8. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds.

A theft was attempted between 10:20 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on May 7 at a business on the 1100 block of Dodge Avenue.

A theft was attempted at 10:44 a.m. on May 6 out the back door of a business on the 1700 block of Maple.

 

Vandalism

Someone broke out the rear window and the rear passenger's side window of a 2002 GMC while it was parked in the driveway between 11 p.m. on May 6 and 6:30 a.m. on May 7 on the 800 block of Hartrey Avenue.

Someone broke out the rear window and the rear passenger's side window of a 2006 Nissan while it was parked on the street at 1:03 a.m. on May 7 on the 2000 block of Dobson Street.

Someone broke out a passenger side window on a 1994 Chevrolet between 11 p.m. on May 6 and 8 a.m. on May 7 on the 700 block of Hartrey Avenue.

Property was damaged in an alley on the 2100 block of Dobson Street between 3 p.m. on May 6 and 5 p.m. on May 7.

 

Trespassing

A Chicago man was accused of trespassing at Barnes & Noble on the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue at 7:41 p.m. on May 6. Otis Graham, 30, was arrested and charged with trespassing. His court date is set for May 24.

 

Weapons Violation

A man fired a gun at 12:01 a.m. on May 7 on the 1800 block of Dodge Avenue.

 

Marijuana Possession

Aida Velic, 22, of Chicago was arrested and charged with marijuana possession at 8:44 p.m. on May 6 on the 1100 block of Sheridan Road. A court date is set for May 26.

 

Public Urination

David W. Wilkerson, 24, of Skokie was arrested and charged with public urination at 6:15 p.m. on May 7 on the 2400 block of Church Street. His court date is set for June 15.

 

Driving without a License

Jose J. Chavez, 33, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 6:34 p.m. on May 8 on the 1000 block of Austin Street. His court date is set for June 20.

Miguel A. Garcia-Silva, 32, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 3:38 p.m. on May 5 on the 1400 block of Main Street. His court date is set for June 8.

Gonzalo V. Gomez, 22, of Skokie was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 7:46 a.m. on May 6 on the 9500 block of Foster Street in Skokie. His court date is set for June 20.

Robert N. Kamber, 33, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 9:10 p.m. on May 5 at the intersection of Church Street and McCormick Boulevard in Skokie. His court date is set for June 1.

Edson M. Lopez, 32, of Skokie was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 10:20 a.m. on May 6 on the 900 block of Dodge Avenue. His court date is set for June 6.

Jose A. Renteria, 22, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 3:30 a.m. on May 8 on the 800 block of Elmwood Avenue. His court date is set for July 8.

Catarino J. Reyes, 41, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 7:50 a.m. on May 6 on the 1300 block of Elmwood Avenue. His court date is set for July 22.
