Police Blotter Nov. 10: Thief Snatches Purse from Woman's Hands; Three Homes Burglarized

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Burglary

A burglar stole a green Trek bicycle, a garage opener and $3 cash from a garage on the 200 block of Burnham Place at 1:15 a.m. on Nov. 10. The homeowner saw a suspect he described as white man about 6-foot tall with dark hair inside his garage. When he confronted the man, he fled in a light-colored SUV. A check of the garage saw that the victim's 2001 Subaru has also been entered illegally.

A burglar entered a house through a window with a pry bar and stole jewelry between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Nov. 9 on the 2700 block of Eastwood Avenue.

Burglars threw a rock through a kitchen window on the south side of  an apartment building between 8:15 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Nov. 9. The burglars ransacked an apartment and left out the front door with a Sharp 52-inch LCD television valued at $1400 on the 1900 block of Jackson Avenue.

 

Theft

A black man about 5-foot-8 wearing a black hoodie and black sweat pants reportedly snatched a woman's purse out of her hands and then fled on foot at 7:10 a.m. on Nov. 7 on the 700 block of Hartrey Avenue.

A thief stole a T-Mobile cell phone from a store counter on the 1900 block of Dempster Street at 2:15 p.m. on Nov. 9 and then fled in a gold Buick sedan. The thief was described as a 150-pound, 5-foot-6 black man in his mid-20s wearing an orange sweatshirt and gray pants.

A black Cannondale mountain bike was stolen between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Nov. 8 while it was chained to a fence outside the victim's residence on the 1500 block of Chicago Avenue.

 

Criminal Damage to Property

Someone cut into the convertible top of a 1991 Pontiac between 11 p.m. on Nov. 8 and 8 a.m. on Nov. 9 on the 2600 block of Central Street.

A 2010 Chevrolet was scratched between 7:15 a.m. and 7:20 a.m. on Nov. 9 on the 900 block of Chicago Avenue.

 

Driving without Proper License

Leonard E. Soberanis, 27, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 12:21 p.m. on the 7600 block of North Paulina Street in Chicago. His court date is set for Dec. 9.

 

Evanston Alcohol Violation

Christopher J. Bradicich, 22, of Evanston was arrested and charged with violating the Evanston alcohol ordinance at 2 a.m. on Nov. 9 on the 500 bock of Church Street. His court date is set for Dec. 8.

 

Graffiti

Someone sprayed graffiti on a one-way sign at the corner of Dobson Street and Elmwood Avenue on Nov. 9.
