Police Blotter Nov. 14: Feud in Soup Line; Woman Stabbed with Scissors

The following arrest information was supplied by the Evanston police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Battery

An 18-year-old Des Plaines woman was stabbed by another woman with a pair of scissors during a fight on the 1900 block of Jackson Avenue at 1:02 p.m. on Friday. She was transported to Evanston North Shore Hospital where she was treated and released. Police said she refused to cooperate with investigators and refused to press charges against the other woman, who had fled the scene by the time police arrived.

A man allegedly spit in another man's face while they were waiting in line at the soup kitchen at Beth Emet Synagogue on Wednesday. Police allege that Michael A. Keaton, 31, of Chicago threatened to knock the other man's teeth in before spitting on him at 5:24 p.m. on the 1200 block of Dempster. The other man retaliated by hitting Keaton in the head with the handle of a kitchen knife, but police said that was in self-defense. Keaton was arrested and charged with battery at 5:35 p.m.. His court date Is Dec. 7.

A man and woman kicked someone in the head on the 2000 block of Green Bay Road at 1:36 p.m. on Friday. The suspects are a black man and woman; the woman was about 5-foot-4.

A man punched someone in the nose in a parking lot on the 1800 block of Maple Avenue at 10:05 p.m. on Friday. The suspect is a white man about 5-foot-10 and 170 pounds.

 

Burglary

A burglar broke into an apartment through the window and stole a Playstation gaming system, video games and two Samsung televisions between 1 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Friday on the 1800 block of Hartrey Avenue.

A burglar broke into a second apartment through the window and stole a television between 1 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Friday on the 1800 block of Hartrey Avenue.

Someone broke into a 1993 Honda between 12:01 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Saturday on the 1600 block of Fowler Avenue. A Toshiba laptop computer, an Apple iPod Nano music player, sunglasses and cigarettes were stolen.

A 2001 Lexus was burglarized between 12:01 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Saturday on the 1600 block of Fowler Avenue. A laptop computer was stolen.

Burglars used tools to enter a 2006 Chevrolet between 12:01 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Saturday on the 1600 block of Fowler Avenue and stoeal cash.

 

Theft

A woman stole earrings and hair oil from a business on the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue at 10:25 a.m. on Friday.

A locked blue Raleigh Oxford boys' bicycle was stolen from a bike rack between 8 a.m. on Thursday and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday on the 900 block of Noyes Street.

A gray 16-inch boys' bicycle was reported stolen off the sidewalk on the 800 block of Austin Street at 11:50 a.m. on Friday.

Domestic Battery

A 69-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 8:30 p.m. on Friday on the 400 block of Sherman Avenue. His court date is set for Wednesday.

A 18-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 11:55 p.m. on Friday on the 2000 block of Dewey Avenue. His court date is set for Nov. 23.

 

Trespassing

Christopher D. Lawton, 25, of Chicago was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing at 8:35 p.m. on Friday on the 2400 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for Dec. 2.

 

Vandalism

Someone damaged the rear windshield of a 2003 Toyota between noon and 1 p.m. on Saturday on the 2100 block of Howard Street.

Two men sprayed black graffiti on the street at 10:05 p.m. on Saturday on the 700 block of Florence Avenue.

A garage was reported marked up with blue spray paint at 7:48 a.m. on Sunday on the 1000 block of Florence Avenue.

A parks building was reported marked with black graffiti at 9:20 a.m. on Saturday on the 300 block of Dodge Avenue.

 

Driving under the Influence

Antonio Demaret, 60, of Skokie was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol at 2:45 a.m. on Saturday on the corner of McCormick Boulevard and Crain Street. His court date is set for Thursday.

 

Drug Possession

Paul A. Garner, 25, of Chicago was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance at 1:11 a.m. on Friday on the 1200 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for Dec. 8.

Drug Paraphernalia

Thomas O. Walker, 27, of Skokie was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia at 2:09 a.m. on Sunday on the 500 block of Dodge Avenue. His court date is set for Dec. 21.

 

Shots Fired

Four to five gun shots were heard at 1:04 a.m. on Sunday on the 500 block of Judson Avenue.

Gun shots were heard at 8:53 p.m. on Saturday on the corner of Lake Street and Pitner Avenue.

Two or three gun shots were heard at 1:17 a.m. on Sunday on the 1500 block of Lake Street.
