Police Blotter Nov. 30: Condo Door Found Glued Shut; Evanston Man Hit With Forgery Charge

The following arrest information was supplied by the Evanston Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Forgery

An Evanston man was charged with forgery after a pair of police officers who knew him spotted him walking to his car on Thanksgiving. Peter E. Baumgartner, 47, was arrested at 12:45 p.m. on Nov. 24 on the 600 block of Forest Avenue. Police said he had an outstanding warrant for forgery from earlier this year. His court date is set for Dec. 22.

Vandalism

The back door of a condominium was glued and nailed shut between 9:30 a.m. on Thursday and 9:30 a.m. on Sunday on the 600 block of Sheridan Square.

Someone broke out the rear window, the driver-side window and a side-view mirror of a 1998 Mercury between 10:30 p.m. and 10:51 p.m. on Monday on the 1700 block of Greenleaf Street.

A house was egged and a window was broken out between 6 p.m. on Nov. 23 and 11:35 a.m. on Friday on the 3200 block of Otto Lane.

Gang graffiti was sprayed on an auto repair shop on the 1900 block of Greenleaf Street between 9 p.m. on Monday and 8:20 a.m. on Tuesday.

Graffiti was found on an office building on the 800 block of Davis Street at 12:01 p.m. on Tuesday.

Graffiti was sprayed in James Park on the 300 block of Dodge Avenue between 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 23 and 10:11 a.m. on Monday.

 

Burglary

A burglar broke into a garage and stole a battery charger and a red, 26-inch snow blower between 5 p.m. on Nov. 18 and 1 a.m. on Tuesday on the 1500 block of Dobson Street.

 

Theft

A man stole a pit bull from an acquaintance on the 300 block of Howard Street at 5:08 p.m. on Tuesday.

A license plate was reportedly stolen off a 2005 Suzuki between June 12 and Sept. 21 on the corner of Oak Avenue and Davis Street.

 

Arrest Warrant

Toni R. Kirksey, 47, of Evanston was arrested on a warrant at 9:58 a.m. on Saturday on the 300 block of Howard Street.

 

Driving without a License

Jose M. Ortega, 32, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 11:38 p.m. on Monday on the 7500 block of North Damen Avenue in Chicago. His court date is set for Dec. 27.
