Police Blotter Nov. 9: Another Phone Robbery Attempt Near Northwestern; Woman Awakens to Men in Apartment

The following arrest information was supplied by the Evanston police department. It does not indicate a conviction.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Robbery

Three men bicycled past a man standing in an alley of the 600 block of Emerson Street at 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday and tried to steal his Apple iPhone. The victim held his phone close to his ear while one of the cyclists reached out and tried to grab the phone. The suspects are Hispanic males wearing dark hoodies. One wore a red bandanna. They did not get the phone and rode off after making the lone attempt.

Trespassing

A woman awoke from her apartment on the 200 block of Callan Avenue to allegedly find two unknown men standing in her foyer at 1:31 a.m. on Tuesday. She had apparently left her apartment unlocked, and police said the men claimed to have gotten the wrong apartment. Police responded quickly and the men fled the apartment leading to the arrest of Keenan L. Smith, 31, of Waukegan. Smith was charged with criminal trespass to a residence and given a court date of Dec. 7. The other man got away.

 

Burglary

A burglar pried open the back door of an apartment on the 1100 block of Ashland Avenue between 9:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Tuesday. An Apple Mac desktop computer, a Sony Playstation gaming system and a coin collection were stolen.

A green Dell laptop computer was stolen out of an unlocked 1999 Ford between 2 p.m. and 5:32 p.m. on Tuesday on the 1700 block of Grey Avenue.

A Chase BP Visa credit card was stolen from an unlocked 2007 Kia between noon and 3 p.m. on Nov. 3 on the 1600 block of Payne Street.

 

Domestic Battery

A 48-year-old Evanston woman was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 4:50 p.m. on Monday on the 1500 block of Wesley Avenue. Her court date is set for next Wednesday.

 

Theft

A locked mountain bike was reported stolen off a rack on the 2300 block of Noyes Court at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Driving without a License

Francisco J. Tlaseca, 31, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 3:05 p.m. on Monday. His court date is set for Dec. 29.
