Police Blotter Oct. 10: Girl Roughed Up at Party; Man Jumps from Taxi Window

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Battery

A 14-year-old girl was hit in the face and jumped at a party on the 1700 block of Brown Avenue at 9:35 p.m. on Friday. Another girl at the party started the fight by throwing a bicycle at her. When the victim confronted her, she was hit in the face and then jumped by several other girls. The victim knew her assailants.

Two men beat someone up on the 1800 block of Emerson Street, knocking out the person’s tooth, causing bumps and cuts to the person’s forehead and cut his lip at 10:33 p.m. on Saturday.

Disorderly Conduct

A Chicago man was arrested after he jumped out of a cab window on the 1600 block of Oak Street. Police said Trenten A. Rocha, 22, of Chicago had been found in someone’s yard, apparently intoxicated at 5:30 p.m. on the 1500 block of Lincoln Street. He told police he was lost, so they asked him to leave the area and hailed a cab for him. He was on his way back to Chicago when police said he jumped from the cab and caused a scene. The cab driver declined to press charges, but Rocha was arrested and charged with violating two city ordinances, disorderly conduct and disobeying a police order at 5:54 p.m.

 

Burglary

A flat-screen television and a computer were stolen from an unlocked medical office on the 1800 block of Church Street at 6 p.m. on Thursday.

A man with keys to a house broke in and stole clothing between Sept. 1 and Sept. 30 on the 600 block of Dodge Avenue. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-4 and 200 pounds.

The passenger window of a 2000 Volkswagen was damaged and an Apple iPad tablet computer, a charger and cash were stolen from the vehicle between 7:30 a.m. and 5:10 p.m. on Friday on the 600 block of Main Street.

Someone broke into a 2011 Cadillac between 9 p.m. on Friday and 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and stole an Apple iPad tablet computer, a Magellan GPS device and a pair of sunglasses between 9 p.m. on Friday and 8:30 a.m. on Saturday on the 900 block of Ridge Court.

A brown leather wallet was stolen from a car on the 300 block of Ridge Avenue at 1:55 p.m. on Saturday.

A wallet and set of car keys were stolen from a secured locker at the YMCA on the 1000 block of Grove Street between 10:21 a.m. and 10:53 a.m. on Friday.

A man broke into an unlocked 2005 Kia at 1:48 a.m. on Sunday on the 2000 block of Brummel Street. Nothing was taken. The suspect is a black man about 6-foot-1.

An unlocked 2003 Toyota was broken into at 1:55 a.m. on Sunday on the 2100 block of Brummel Street. Nothing was taken.

An unlocked 1994 Mercury was broken into at 2:33 a.m. on Saturday on the 2100 block of Dobson Street. Nothing was taken.

Theft

Two women stole clothing from the donation box in the parking lot of the Jewel-Osco grocery on the 2400 block of Howard Street at 5:33 p.m. on Sunday.

A woman allegedly stole tequila, rolls, doughnuts and chicken tenders from the Jewel-Osco grocery on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue at 4:39 p.m. on Saturday. Ferris M. Banks, 33, of Chicago was arrested and charged with retail theft. Her court date is set for Nov. 8.

A man allegedly stole four bottles of vodka at 11:48 a.m. on Sunday at the Jewel-Osco grocery store on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue. Herman Townsell, 44, of Chicago was arrested and charged with retail theft. His court date is set for Nov. 8.

A man allegedly stole vodka and tequila from the Jewel-Osco grocery on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue at 2:01 p.m. on Saturday. Byron W. Parson, 44, of Evanston was arrested and charged with retail theft. His court date is set for Nov. 21.

A woman allegedly stole prune juice and a bottle of Snapple at 5:45 p.m. on Sunday at the Jewel-Osco grocery on the 2400 block of Howard Street. Police arrested Joane Daye, 21, of Evanston and charged her with retail theft. Her court date is set for Nov. 16.

A woman allegedly stole three tubes of lipstick at 12:30 p.m. on Friday from the CVS/pharmacy on the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue. Crystal L. Boone, 45, of Chicago was arrested and charged with retail theft. Her court date is set for Nov. 8.

A Fuji 2500 HD camera, a camera bag and an Insignia video camera were stolen from a park bench on the 2000 block of McCormick Boulevard between 5:45 p.m. and 6:44 p.m. on Saturday.

A red Toro lawn mower was stolen from a lawn on the 1300 block of Fowler Avenue between 5:30 a.m. on Saturday and 11:33 a.m. on Sunday.

A blue motorized scooter and a bike lock were stolen from a lawn on the 2000 block of Maple Avenue between 6:15 p.m. and 9:15 p.m. on Saturday.

A wallet was stolen from a restaurant on the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue at 1:20 p.m. on Saturday.

The right-side glass was stolen from a mirror on a 2004 Chevrolet at 8 p.m. on Friday and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday on the 1200 block of Dodge Avenue.

A blue Magna girls bicycle and a red and blue Magna boys bicycle was stolen from a lawn on the 1300 block of Fowler Avenue between Sept. 10 and 2 p.m. on Thursday.

A locked dark gray Schwinn bicycle was stolen at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday on the 2200 block of Sherman Avenue.

A locked blue and white adult tricycle was stolen between 6:10 p.m. and 9:51 p.m. on Friday on the 1100 block of Hull Terrace.

An unlocked black-and-white KHS bicycle was stolen from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at 3:22 p.m. on Saturday on the 1000 block of Greenwood Street.

A 15-year-old Evanston girl was arrested and charged with theft at 6:15 p.m. on Saturday on the corner of Elmwood Avenue and Howard Street.

 

Vandalism

The sliding glass door of a house was damaged at 7:36 p.m. on Sunday on the 1900 block of Brown Avenue.

The rear window of a 1999 Subaru was damaged between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Sunday on the 1000 block of Ashland Avenue.

The rear passenger window of a 1998 Lexus was damaged at 12:41 p.m. on Saturday on the 2300 block of Brown Avenue.

Someone keyed the driver’s side of a 2005 Porche between 9:30 p.m. on Saturday and 7:45 a.m. on Sunday on the 1000 block of Michigan Avenue.

A 2007 Subaru was all scratched up on the 1800 block of Wesley Avenue between 8 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. on Saturday.

A flag pole was ripped down from the Margarita Inn between 11 p.m. on Friday and 6:45 a.m. on Saturday on the 1500 block of Oak Avenue.

A residential garage was marked with black spray paint between 5 p.m. on Thursday and 9:30 a.m. on Friday on the 2600 block of Reese Avenue.

An apartment common area was found marked up with red paint at 7 a.m. on Sunday on the 200 block of Custer Avenue.

White paint was found sprayed on the train right-of-way on the 600 block of Main Street at 11:11 a.m. on Saturday.

Black graffiti was found sprayed on the Metra right-of-way at 9:11 a.m. on Saturday at the corner of Green Bay Road and Lincoln Street.

Black graffiti was found sprayed on the Metra right-of-way at 9:38 a.m. on Saturday at the corner of Green Bay Road and Livngston Street.

 

Trespassing

A 17-year-old Evanston girl was arrested and charged with trespassing at 3:48 a.m. on Sunday on the 900 block of Davis Street.

 

Marijuana Possession

Adam S. Hagg, 26, of Skokie was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 10:30 p.m. on Friday on the 2000 block of Ashland Avenue. Kejuan K. Little, 22, of Skokie was arrested along with Hagg and charged with unlawful possession of alcohol. The court date for Hagg is set for Nov. 16 and Little's court date is Nov. 10.

Lucian T. Hatfield Goodnight, 22, of Evanston was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 3:47 p.m. on Sunday on the 1600 block of Emerson Street. His court date is set for Nov. 21.

Paul E. Newton, 21, of Skokie was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 5:35 p.m. on Thursday on the 500 block of Barton Place. His court date is set for Friday.

Steven M. Williams, 34, of Evanston was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 6:30 p.m. on Friday on the 1600 block of McDaniel Avenue. His court date is set for Nov. 8.

 

Shots Fired/Man with Gun

Gun shots were fired at 6:27 a.m. on Saturday on the 500 block of Hinman Avenue.

Gun shots were heard at 12:59 a.m. on Saturday on the corner of Isabella Avenue and Eastwood Street.

A man was seen with a gun on the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue at 2:56 a.m. on Friday.

Gun shots were heard at 12:44 a.m. on Saturday on the 2000 block of Emerson Street.

 

Open Container

Robert E. Belisle, 45, of Evanston and Eduardo Santana, 34, of Skokie were arrested and charged with open possession of alcohol in public at 12:16 a.m. on Monday on the 1100 block of Pitner Avenue. The court date for Belisle is set for Oct. 27 and Santana's court date is Oct. 25.
