Police Blotter Oct. 11: 'Water Guy' Loots Apartment; Man Caught Spraying Graffiti on CTA Property

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Burglary

A man tricked a resident into letting him into an apartment to check the water on the 600 block of Hinman Avenue at 2:47 p.m. on Sunday, where he stole empty jewelry boxes, a ring and threw them in a pillowcase. The suspect is a Hispanic man about 5-foot-9 and 190 pounds.

Someone damaged the door and broke a window to a park building at James Park on the 300 block of Dodge Avenue between 9 a.m. on Sunday and 9 a.m. on Monday.

Vandalism

An Evanston man allegedly marked up a train viaduct with graffiti at 3:43 a.m. on Monday on the 600 block of Main Street. Stephen A. Hall, 20, was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property. His court date is set for Oct. 20.

Lincolnwood Elementary School was hit with graffiti between 3 p.m.on Friday and 7:30 a.m. on Monday on the 2600 block of Colfax Street.

A business was marked up with graffiti between 5 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. on Monday on the 2200 block of Main Street.

A business was found marked with graffiti at 9:38 a.m. on Monday on the 700 block of Custer Avenue.

The CTA viaduct was reported tagged with graffiti at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday on the 1000 block of Lincoln Street.

 

Theft

A woman allegedly stole tools from the Home Depot hardware store at 3:53 p.m. on Monday on the 2200 block of Oakton Street. Police arrested Cheryl L. Jackson, 54, of Chicago and charged her with retail theft. Her court date is set for Nov. 16.

A man allegedly stole a bottle of Bacardi and some Heineken beer from the Dominick’s grocery store on the 1900 block of Dempster Street at 1:48 p.m. on Friday. Torrence L. Dunn, 42, of Evanston was arrested and charged with retail theft. His court date is set for Thursday.

A male stole money from a woman’s purse at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church between 5 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. on Monday on the 1800 block of Brown Avenue. The suspect is a black male about 5-foot-8 and 135 pounds.

A woman stole cash from the North Shore Retirement Hotel between 7:50 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. on Monday on the 1600 block of Chicago Avenue. The suspect is a Hispanic woman about 5-foot-5 and 160 pounds.

The same woman reportedly stole cash from the retirement hotel between 8 p.m. on Oct. 3 and 3:15 p.m. on Thursday on the 1600 block of Chicago Avenue.

A locked Trek 3700 mountain bike was reported stolen from an apartment building common area at 10 a.m. on Monday on the 2200 block of Ridge Avenue.

A locked Trek bicycle was reported stolen from a rack on the 2100 block of Ridge Avenue at 5:45 p.m. on Sunday.

A 14-year-old Evanston resident was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property at 3:55 p.m. on Monday on the 1800 block of Foster Street.

A 15-year-old Chicago resident was arrested and charged with retail theft at Urban Outfitters at 4:26 p.m. on Monday on the 900 block of Church Street.

 

Driving under the Influence

Serge A. Te, 39, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 10:15 p.m. on Sunday on the 1400 block of Asbury Avenue. His court date is set for Thursday.

 

Marijuana Possession

Shaquille L. Bullock, 18, of Chicago was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 3:26 p.m. on Friday on the 1700 block of Monroe Street. His court date is set for Nov. 1.

Glenford S. Morales, 35, of was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 12:16 a.m. on Monday on the 1100 block of Pitner Avenue. His court date is set for Thursday.

 

Driving without a License

Jimmique M. Harris, 38, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 5:05 p.m. on Friday on the 1200 block of Asbury Avenue. Her court date is set for Nov. 1.

 

Shots Fired

Gun shots were fired at 8:51 p.m. on Monday on the corner of Elmwood Avenue and Dobson Street.

 

Underage Consumption

Jesus N. Hernandez, 18, of Evanston and three Evanston juveniles were arrested and charged with underage consumption of alcohol at 8 p.m. on Monday on the 2000 block of Grey Avenue. The juveniles were 17, 15 and 14. A court date for Hernandez is set for Nov. 16.
