Police Blotter Oct. 14: Burglars Loot Home Electronics; Man Hit by Drunken Frat Boy

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Battery

A reputedly drunk fraternity guy hit a man between 12:30 a.m. and 12:46 a.m. on Friday on the 2300 block of Sheridan Road across the street from the Northwestern University campus. The victim told police that he and his friend were walking down the street when they saw another man their age yelling at cars like he was drunk. They commented to the man, who then "bum-rushed" them and punched one of them in the face. The victim said a female witness told them she knew the attacker as a member of a campus fraternity. The suspect is a white man about 6-foot and 165 pounds with short hair. He was wearing a white collared shirt. The victim was treated on the scene by paramedics for minor injuries.

Burglary

Burglars broke into an apartment on the 1500 block of Howard Street between 8:15 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. on Thursday and stole a Panasonic home entertainment system, a 16-inch Hewlett-Packard laptop computer, an 11-inch Asus notebook computer, a 16-inch Acer laptop computer, an Armani watch, a Citizen watch, a Fossil watch, jewelry, a Sony Playstation video game system and a 46-inch screen Samsung television. The total value of the items was $5,900.

A man broke into an unlocked garage on the 1800 block of Greenwood Street at 1 a.m. on Friday, but he didn’t take anything.

 

Theft

A man stole a black and brown Giant bicycle from an apartment building common area between 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 8 and 10 a.m. on Sunday. The suspect is a white man about 6-foot and 160 pounds.

Someone stole cash from an unsecured gym locker at the Evanston Athletic Club between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Thursday on the 1700 block of Benson Avenue.

A Schwinn bicycle was reported stolen from someone’s lawn at 6:05 p.m. on Thursday on the 1000 block of Garnett Place.

 

Vandalism

Two women keyed a 2010 Jeep and put gum all over the vehicle at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday on the 1700 block of Main Street. The suspects are two white women, one 5-foot-5 and 150 pounds, the other 5-foot-4 and 120 pounds.

An apartment common area was marked up with graffiti between 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 3 and 8:30 a.m. on Sunday on the 2900 block of Central Street.

 

Domestic Battery

A 30-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 5:09 p.m. on Wednesday on the 2200 block of Emerson Street. His court date is set for next Wednesday.

A 19-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 8:55 a.m. on Thursday on the 1000 block of Dodge Avenue. His court date is set for Oct. 26.

 

Drug Paraphernalia

Michael A. Jackson, 49, of Evanston was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia at 7 p.m. on Wednesday on the 2000 block of Ridge Avenue. His court date is set for Nov. 23.

 

Open Container

Mikule Ganges, 41, of Evanston was arrested and charged with an open alcohol container at 1:16 a.m. on Thursday on the 300 block of Custer Avenue. His court date is set for Oct. 27.
