Police Blotter Oct. 27: Burglars Nabbed Breaking into Subaru

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Burglary

Two men allegedly broke into an unlocked 2010 Subaru at 9 p.m. on Tuesday on the 1600 block of Colfax Street. Leroy I. Anderson, 21, of Chicago and Cary Fountain, 18, of Evanston were arrested and charged with burglary to auto at 9:05 p.m. on the 1500 block of Lincoln Street. Their court date is set for Dec. 14.

A burglar broke out the driver-side window of a 2007 Infiniti and stole an Apple iPod music player, an Escort radar detector and a phone charger between 6 p.m. on Monday and 7:40 a.m. on Wednesday on the 1700 block of Chicago Avenue.

The passenger window of a 2008 Honda was smashed and sunglasses, a garage door opener and an I.D. badge were stolen between 7 p.m. on Tuesday and 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday on the 1700 block of Chicago Avenue.

A backpack was stolen out of a 1998 Toyota between 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday on the 300 block of Ridge Avenue.

Someone smashed the driver-side window of a 2010 Toyota between 7 p.m. on Tuesday and 9 p.m. on Thursday on the 1700 block of Chicago Avenue. Nothing was taken.

Theft

A male stole an item at Evanston Township High School, but it was recovered at 4:33 p.m. on Wednesday on the 1600 block of Dodge Avenue. The suspect is an Hispanic male about 5-foot-7 and 130 pounds.

A man allegedly stole tools from the Home Depot hardware store at 1:13 p.m. on Wednesday on the 2300 block of Oakton Street. Peter Yip, 52, of Searingtown, N.Y., was arrested and charged with retail theft. His court date is set for Nov. 23.

A woman left a restaurant without paying at 8:35 p.m. on Wednesday on the 2200 block of Oakton Street. The suspect is a black woman about 5-foot-6 and 190 pounds.

An unlocked bicycle was stolen from an apartment common area between 9 a.m. and 10:54 a.m. on Wednesday on the 500 block of Custer Avenue.

An unlocked Bianchi Brava bicycle was stolen from an apartment common area on Oct. 19 on the 700 block of Brummel Street.

Driving without a License

Jaime Perez, 47, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 8:20 a.m. on Wednesday on the 1600 block of Dodge Avenue. His court date is set for Dec. 7.
