Police Blotter Oct. 31: Man Comes at Roommate with Knives; Girl Hit with Concrete

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Assault & Battery

A man allegedly assaulted his roommate at their house on the 1600 block of Darrow Avenue at 11:32 a.m. on Saturday. Police said Sherman H. Ware, 55, had been bad-mouthing someone they both knew and his roommate asked him to quit. Ware allegedly became enraged and came at his roommate with two knives from the kitchen. The other man ran in his bedroom and called police. He chose to press charges against Ware, who was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. His court date is set for Nov. 23.

Two teenage girls pushed another teenage girl on the sidewalk of the 1700 block of Brown Avenue and then hit her in the forehead with a chunk of concrete at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday. The suspects were black females between 15 and 17 years old, between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-8 and between 130 and 160 pounds. The victim suffered only a scratch to her forehead. She told police she knew the girls and had gotten into a fight with them earlier in the month.

A man allegedly kicked and punched someone in the face at a chain restaurant on the 2200 block of Oakton Street at 10:30 p.m. on Friday. Christian V. Sanchez, 21, of Skokie was arrested and charged with battery at 11:05 p.m. on the 3300 block of Oakton Street in Skokie. His court date is set for Nov. 21.

A woman pushed someone in an apartment building common area at 5 p.m. on Oct. 13 on the 300 block of Sherman Avenue. The suspect is a black woman about 5-foot-10 and 190 pounds.

A woman reportedly assaulted someone on the sidewalk at 3 p.m. on Wednesday on the corner of Lee Street and Florence Avenue. The suspect is a black woman about 5-foot-10 and 300 pounds.

Burglary

Someone broke out a window on a 2005 GMC and stole a Sony car stereo and a Garmin GPS device between 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday and 9 a.m. on Thursday on the 600 block of Brummel Street.

A Cannondale H500 bicycle was stolen from a garage on the 900 block of Ridge Court at 8:50 a.m. on Friday.

A blue and black bicycle was stolen from an unlocked garage between 9 p.m. on Friday and 9:45 a.m. on Saturday on the 2100 block of Wesley Avenue.

A boy reportedly broke into a house through an unlocked door between 5:40 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Friday on the 200 block of Richmond Avenue. The suspect is a black male about 5-foot-2 and 150 pounds. Nothing was reported taken.

Theft

Someone ripped the flowers out of their planters on the 700 block of Howard Street between 7 p.m. on Friday and noon on Saturday.

A man reportedly stole personal items from the CVS/pharmacy on the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue at 6:20 p.m. on Saturday. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-9 and 200 pounds.

Four Apple iPhones were reported stolen from the Jewish Reconstructionist temple on the 300 block of Dodge Avenue between 9:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Thursday.

A locked Trek boys' bicycle was reported stolen at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday in an apartment common area on the 1400 block of Chicago Avenue.

A locked white bicycle was reported stolen off the sidewalk on the 1700 block of Chicago Avenue at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

An unlocked Schwinn bicycle was stolen from an apartment common area at 5 p.m. on Saturday and 2 a.m. on Sunday on the 2100 block of Ridge Avenue.

A man stole something from an unsecured locker room at 4:51 p.m. on Friday at the YMCA on the 1000 block of Grove Street.

 

Drug Dealing

Tatum O. Logan, 22, of Evanston was arrested and charged with drug possession with the intent to deliver at 7:21 a.m. on Friday on the 2000 block of Green Bay Road. His court date is set for Nov. 9.

David Z. Weiner, 23, of Chicago was arrested and charged with drug possession with the intent to deliver at 3:30 p.m. on Friday on the 2700 block of West Rosemont Avenue in West Rogers Park, Chicago. His court date is set for Nov. 9.

 

Vandalism

A man allegedly damaged the window to an apartment between 4 a.m. and 4:10 a.m. on Saturday on the 800 block of Hinman Avenue. Jermaine Pride, 32, of Evanston was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property. His court date is set for Wednesday.

A window was damaged at a tavern on the 1700 block of Sherman Avenue between 8:30 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. on Sunday.

A wooden fence was damaged in someone's yard on the 1900 block of Brummel Street between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday.

The glass covers of parking meters were reported damage at 9:06 a.m. on Friday on the 1800 block of Oak Avenue.

A house was tagged with blue graffiti between 12:01 a.m. on Thursday and 10:02 a.m. on Friday on the 100 block of Dempster Street.

Blue graffiti was also sprayed on a residential garage on the 1400 block of Judson Avenue between 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Graffiti was found sprayed on a residential garage on the 1000 block of Sheridan Road.

Black graffiti was sprayed on the sidewalk at the corner of Simpson Street and Green Bay Road between midnight and 3:13 a.m. on Friday.

 

Domestic Battery

A 43-year-old Evanston man was arrested and charged with domestic battery at the Evanston Police Station at 11:25 a.m. on Thursday. His court date is set for Nov. 10.

Melvyn W. Williams, 69, of Evanston was arrested and charged with domestic battery at 1:35 p.m. on Friday at the Evanston Police Station. His court date is set for Nov. 12.

 

Hit and Run

Kristin D. Innes, 29, of Evanston was arrested and charged with hit and run after a car accident at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday on the 1600 block of Howard Street. Her court date is set for Nov. 16.

 

Driving under the Influence

Vanessa Gutierrez, 27, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol at 2:12 a.m. on Friday on the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue. Her court date is set for Nov. 23.

Pema Tashi, 27, of Skokie was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol at 2:27 a.m. on the 1900 block of Church Street. Her court date is set for Nov. 16.

Driving without a License

Ascencion F. S. Alpizar, 34, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 1:01 a.m. on Monday on the 1700 block of Church Street. His court date is set for Dec. 7.

Hector Barrientos, 35, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 3:27 p.m. on Thursday on the 1400 block of Church Street. His court date is set for Nov. 23.

Barbara S. Davis, 24, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday on the 1100 block of Dodge Avenue. Her court date is set for Nov. 23.

Anthony R. Scott, 24, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 12:16 a.m. on Saturday on the 2000 block of Brown Avenue. His court date is set for Dec. 14.

 

Open Container

Jemar D. Harris, 27, of Evanston was arrested and charged with possession of alcohol in a motor vehicle at 12:10 a.m. on Saturday on the 2000 block of Brown Avenue. His court date is set for Dec. 2.

Shots Fired

Gun shots were heard at 9:39 p.m. on Saturday on the 1800 block of Hartrey Avenue.
