Police Blotter Oct. 4: Burglars Smash in Business Door; Assault Reported at Nursing Home

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Burglary

A burglar smashed in the glass front door of J.D. Mills Foods on the 600 block of Chicago Avenue between 8 p.m. on Friday and 6:16 a.m. on Saturday. Police went inside and noticed the cash register and back office were ransacked. The owner came to the store and determined that $150 cash was stolen from the business.

A burglar broke the passenger window of a 1997 BMW and stole the GPS device between 7 p.m. on Sunday and 2 p.m. on Monday on the 200 block of Custer Avenue.

Assault

A man threatened a female employee of Ridgeview Nursing Home on the 800 block of Austin Street at 11:58 a.m. on Friday. The woman told police that he arrived and told her he was picking her up because he was from First Choice Medicar. She said she didn't recognize him and refused. The man then cursed her and threatened to hit her in the face before leaving. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-9 and 200 pounds.

 

Theft

A man allegedly stole food from the CVS/pharmacy on the 100 block of Asbury Avenue at 2:49 a.m. on Monday. Glenn E. Beler, 51, of Chicago was arrested and charged with retail theft. His court date is set for Oct. 20.

A black wallet and a green Canon PowerShot camera were stolen from a purse at a restaurant on the 1700 block of Orrington Avenue between 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m. on Sunday.

 

Vandalism

The windshield of a 1995 Cadillac was cracked and the side-view mirror was broken between 2 p.m. and 2:23 p.m. on Monday on the 1800 block of Foster Street.

The tires of a 2004 Mazda were slashed in an apartment building parking lot on the 400 block of Callan Avenue between 9 a.m. on Sept. 28 and 9 a.m. last Thursday.

The side view mirror of a 2001 Chevrolet was damaged between 4:45 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday on the 2200 block of Emerson Street.

 

Arrest Warrant

Bobby L. Weatherspoon, 42, of Evanston was arrested on a trio of warrants at 5 a.m. on Saturday on the corner of West Howard Street and North Marshfield Avenue in Chicago. His court date is set for Oct. 18.

 

No Firearms Card

Leonard P. Perkins, 46, of Evanston was arrested and charged with possessing a firearm without an owners’ identification card at 3:27 a.m. on Saturday on the 1700 block of Darrow Avenue. His court date is set for Oct. 26.

 

Driving without a License

Jacob L. Fine, 53, of Lincolnwood was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 12:35 p.m. on Saturday on the 700 block of Church Street. His court date is set for Oct. 20. Fine also had an outstanding warrant, and the court date for that charge is Nov. 8.

Jamal A. Mason, 20, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 11:01 p.m. on Monday on the 600 block of Emerson Street. His court date is set for Oct. 20.

Sharrelle L. McGee, 30, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 12:45 a.m. on Monday on the 900 block of Howard Street. Her court date is set for Oct. 20.

Richard C. Monahan, 63, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday on the 1400 block of Sherman Avenue. His court date is set for Oct. 20.

Edwin L. Thomas Sr., 45, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 9:40 a.m. on Saturday on the 1900 block of Green Bay Road. His court date is set for Nov. 20.

Hilberto F. Wray, 32, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 12:25 a.m. on Tuesday on the 600 block of Davis Street. His court date is set for Nov. 21.
