Police Blotter Oct. 4: Stolen Vending Machines, a Big Fan of Print News

A recap of crimes reported in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Theft

Unknown subjects took two small vending machines from a property on the 300 block of Howard between 11 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. Oct. 1.  The two suspects were between 25 and 30 years old and were seen driving a burgundy Dodge Ram.

Unknown subject(s) took a wallet from an unattended purse on the 800 block of Colfax sometime between 6 p.m. Sept. 30 or midnight Oct. 1.

Unknown subject(s) took a wallet from an purse left unattended in a shopping cart on the 1900 block of Dempster at 3 p.m. on Oct 1.

Unknown subject(s) took several newspapers from an unattended cart on the 800 block of Davis at 5:30 a.m. on Oct. 3.

Unknown subject(s) took a cell phone from the victim's jacket pocket, while it was in the locker room at the 1000 block of Grove between 9-9:15 a.m. Oct. 3.

Unknown subject(s) took a Black Redline Cycle Cross bicycle that was locked to a bike rack at the 900 block of Davis at 4:45 p.m. on Oct. 1.

Unknown subject(s) took a watch from a lock box, by unknown means on the 1000 block of Grove at 5 p.m. Sept. 29.

Criminal Damage

Unknown subject(s) damaged a 1999 Volkswagen by scratching the hood on the 2600 block of Poplar between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Oct. 1.

Unknown subjects used a large planter to break a front window on the 800 block of Main at 4:45 a.m. on Oct. 2.

Burglary

Unknown subject(s) gained entry to a 1999 Jeep by unzipping the convertible top sometime between 8:00 p.m. Sept. 30 and 10:30 a.m. Oct. 1. A GPS was taken from the car.

Unknown subject(s) gained entry to an unsecured 1996 Dodge and stole a car stereo sometime between 10:30 p.m. Sept. 30 and 7:30 a.m. Oct. 1.

Unknown subject(s) gained entry to a community garage on the 900 block of Washington by unknown means sometime between 6:30 p.m. Sept. 30 and 7:15 a.m. Oct. 1.

Robbery

A man told police he observed an unknown subject throw a planter through a window. When the subject saw the man, he and other unknown subjects attacked him. They knocked him to the ground, and the subject took the victim's wallet and iPod.  The robbery happened at 4:20 a.m. Oct. 2 on the 900 block of Sherman.

Graffiti

Unknown subject(s) used spray paint to write graffiti in various locations in James Park sometime on Oct. 1 or 2.

Juvenile Arrests

A juvenile, age 17, was arrested at 1600 Dodge on 6:43 p.m. on Oct. 1 for possession of marijuana.

A juvenile, age 17, was arrested at  600 Mulford at 2:15 a.m. on Oct. 2 and charged with minor in possession of alcohol.

A juvenile, age 17, was arrested at 701 Howard at 7:20 p.m. on Oct. 2 and charged with criminal trespass to real property.
