Police Blotter Oct. 6: Woman Nabbed for American Apparel Theft; Menorah Knocked Over at Temple

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

A woman lashed out at her ex-boyfriend when she saw him with another woman at 7:39 p.m. on Wednesday on the 2000 block of Lake Avenue. Police said she walked up to them and grabbed at his shirt and after fending her off, the man left with the other woman. The suspect is a black woman about 5-foot-2 and 120 pounds.

A man threatened someone in an apartment on the 2000 block of Wesley Avenue at 1:02 p.m. on Wednesday. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-9 and 165 pounds.

Burglary

A burglar stole a blue denim bag with red straps and a purse from an unlocked 2002 Toyota between 8 p.m. on Sept. 30 and 10 a.m. last Saturday on the 1700 block of McDaniel Avenue.

Someone broke out a window of a 2002 Toyota parked in an alley of the 1000 block of Chicago Avenue at 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday.

 

Theft

A woman allegedly stole two shirts and a dress from American Apparel on the 900 block of Church Street at 12:25 p.m. on Wednesday. Police arrested Imai D. V. Jones, 18, of Chicago was arrested and charged with retail theft at 12:35 p.m., when she was picked up by police near the Davis El station on the 1600 block of Benson Avenue. Police said Jones took the clothes into a fitting room at the store and walked out with them concealed beneath her clothing. Her court date is set for Dec. 7.

Someone stole the tire and rim off a 1989 Honda and replaced it with a tree trunk between 5 p.m. on Tuesday and 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday on the 1500 block of Wilder Street.

A silver Toshiba laptop computer were stolen from an apartment on the 100 block of Custer Avenue between 9:30 p.m. on Monday and 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

An extension ladder and tools were stolen from an alley of the 2100 block of Emerson Street between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

A specialized 24-inch silver girls’ bicycle was stolen from a lawn on the 800 block of Hamlin Street between 10 p.m. on Tuesday and 7 a.m. on Wednesday.

A vehicle sticker was stolen from a business on the 1600 block of Payne Street at 3:58 p.m. on Tuesday.

 

Vandalism

Someone knocked over the menorah at a temple on the 2000 block of Orrington Avenue between 1 a.m. and 6:54 a.m. on Wednesday.

Four 14-year-old Evanston residents were arrested and charged with criminal defacement at 5:10 p.m. on Wednesday on the 800 block of Davis Street.

Gang graffiti was written in someone’s lawn on the 1800 block of Crain Street at 4 p.m. on Monday.

A business was marked up with graffiti at 11 p.m. on Sunday on the 1800 block of Dempster Street.

 

Driving under the Influence

Milton C. Dunbar, 63, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 8:10 p.m. on Wednesday on the corner of Dempster Street and Hartrey Avenue. His court date is set for Nov. 16.

Paul J. Holzman, 51, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving under the influence at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday on the corner of Sheridan Road and Keeney Street. His court date is set for Nov. 1.

 

Driving without a License

Thomas M. Doyle, 24, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 11:08 a.m. on Tuesday on the corner of Crain Street and Ridge Avenue. His court date is set for Nov. 23.

Ciara P. Evans, 19, of Hazel Crest was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 2:30 a.m. on Monday on the 2100 block of Oakton Street. Her court date is set for Nov. 16.

Tasharia B. Taylor, 18, of Des Plaines was arrested and charged with driving with no driver’s license at 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday on the 2100 block of Oakton Street. Her court date is set for Nov. 16.
