Police Blotter Sept. 2: Homeless Man Threatens Jewel Manager; Young Woman Jumped on Church & Brown

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

A homeless man allegedly threatened to kill the store manager at the Jewel-Osco grocery store on the corner of Greenleaf Street and Chicago Avenue at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Harlan K. Watson, 47, of Evanston was arrested and charged with assault. Police said Watson had gotten into a dispute with another homeless man. When the store manager broke up the dispute and asked them to leave the store, Watson allegedly made his threats. He left the store and was picked up a block away on the corner of Dempster Street and Chicago Avenue. His court date is set for Oct. 13.

A 20-year-old woman was jumped by four acquaintances — two male, two female — on the sidewalk at 9:30 p.m. on Thursday on the corner of Church Street and Brown Avenue. She told police she believed she was roughed up in retaliation for a previous fight. She suffered scrapes to her back and legs and a black eye.

A man gave an unwanted hug on the bus on the 2400 block of Main Street at 7:05 a.m. on Sept. 1.

 

Burglary

Cash was stolen from an unlocked 1999 Toyota between 3 p.m. on Aug. 31 and 1 p.m. on Sept. 1 on the 2700 block of Lawndale Avenue.

 

Theft

A woman allegedly stole a bottle of liquor from the Jewel-Osco grocery store on the 2400 block of Howard Street at 7:35 p.m. on Aug. 31. Ana D. DeLeon, 45, of Chicago was arrested and charged with retail theft. Her court date is set for Sept. 27.

Three unlocked bicycle were stolen from a lawn on the 2200 block of Foster Street between 6 a.m. and 7:53 a.m. on Sept. 1. The bikes stolen included a 10-speed light blue girls' bicycle, a red Schwinn mountain bike and a dark blue Schwinn mountain bike.

An unlocked blue Giant Boulder bicycle was stolen at 10 p.m. on Sept. 1 out of a lawn on the 1100 block of Elmwood Avenue.

 

Trespassing

Ricco Aiden, 43, of Evanston was arrested and charged with trespassing at 11:51 p.m. on Aug. 30 on the 100 block of Callan Avenue. His court date is set for Oct. 13.

 

Arrest Warrant

Deontre D. Chess, 19, of Skokie was arrested on a warrant at 5:53 p.m. on Sept. 1 on the 7500 block of North Seeley in Rogers Park, Chicago.

Ricardo A. Nance, 48, of Evanston was arrested on a warrant at 10:46 a.m. on Aug. 30 on the 500 block of Howard Street.

 

Marijuana Possession

Jerome T. Jefferson, 21, of Evanston was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 11:45 p.m. on Sept. 1 on the corner of Emerson Street and Leland Avenue. His court date is set for Sept. 27.

 

Driving without a License

Michael D. Clark, 25, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 4:14 p.m. on Sept. 1 on the 2100 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for Oct. 13.
