Police Blotter Sept. 20: Burglar Hits Three Cars on Lincoln; Van Stolen off Brown Ave.

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Burglary

The front passenger windows were broken out of three cars that were burglarized between 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Monday on the 1100 block of Lincoln Street. Cash, a purse, a Blackberry and an Apple cell phone were stolen from a blue 2010 Volkswagen. A tennis bag and a tennis racket were taken from a 2000 Ford, and a $150 gray Garmin GPS device was stolen from a 2009 Subaru. Police were able to trace the Apple phone to the 1900 block of Foster Street, and a number of the items were recovered with a person of interest who has not yet been charged. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-9 and 210 pounds.

Battery

Someone was hit in the face at 12:30 a.m. on Monday on the corner of Simpson Street and Pratt Court.

 

Theft

A brown and beige 1992 Toyota Previa minivan was stolen off the street between 10:30 p.m. on Sunday and 8 a.m. on Monday on the 1700 block of Brown Avenue. The keys had been left in the van.

A locked blue and black 27-inch men’s Raleigh Cadent FTI bicycle was stolen between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Sunday on the sidewalk of the 1600 block of Chicago Avenue.

A man and a woman stole a Verizon cell phone at a garage sale on the 3200 block of Otto Lane on Saturday. The suspects are a white man about 6-foot-2 and a white woman about 5-foot-1.

 

Arrest Warrant

Gabriel Ayala, 28, of Crown Point, Ind., was arrested on a warrant at 4:02 p.m. on Saturday on the 100 block of Callan Avenue.

Lashawn Y. Johnson, 21, of Evanston was arrested on a warrant at 4:39 p.m. on Sept. 13 on the 700 block of Howard Street. His court date is set for next Tuesday.

Erica R. Pinelo, 22, of Chicago was arrested on a warrant at 2:17 p.m. last Thursday on the 700 block of Dodge Avenue.

Cary M. Storm, 47, of Chicago was arrested on a warrant at 9:45 a.m. on Sept. 12 on the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue.

Davaris A. Washington, 23, of Chicago was arrested on a warrant at 7:41 p.m. last Thursday on the 100 block of Ridge Avenue.

 

Vandalism

Graffiti was found sprayed in an alley on the 800 block of Asbury Avenue on Sept. 12.

 

Driving without a License

Jose R. Duran, 22, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 1:46 a.m. on Monday on the 1000 block of Dodge Avenue. His court date is set for Oct. 18.

Jesus G. Garcia-Hernandez, 28, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 4 p.m. on Saturday on the 900 block of Sheridan Road.

Jose R. Ortiz, 22, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 6:58 a.m. on Monday on the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue. His court date is set for Nov. 1.

Katherine E. Stewart, 50, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 8:15 p.m. on Friday on the 700 block of Dewey Avenue. Her court date is set for Oct. 24.

 

Shots Fired

Gun shots were reported at 10:40 p.m. on the 800 block of Davis Street on Monday, but officers checked the area and nothing was found.
