Police Blotter Sept. 21: Man Beat up in Shoe Dispute; Traffic Stop Leads to Crack Cocaine Bust

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

 

Drug Possession

Police said they pulled over a car for driving with its headlights off at 10 p.m. on Monday, just north of Dempster Street on Dodge Avenue. Police said they noticed that the passenger had been trying to hide something as they pulled up. Police arrested Corey L. Howard, 20, of Evanston, after they allegedly found three grams of crack cocaine and one-half ounce of marijuana on his person. The driver was cited for driving after dark without headlights. The court date for Howard is Oct. 6.

Battery

A man was walking along an alley of the 1800 block of Lyons Avenue when he was beat up by two black males. The assailants had accused him of stealing their shoes, which he denied. The two men then began kicking and punching the victim. The suspects are black men, one about 5-foot-7 and 170 pounds; the other about 6-foot tall and 260 pounds.

 

Theft

A man stole a woman's purse and cash on the sidewalk of the 1600 block of Foster Street between 4:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The suspect, a black man about 5-foot-8 and 135 pounds, was known to the victim.

A man stole clothing from a store on the 1600 block of Orrington Avenue at 2:35 p.m. on Tuesday. The suspect is a white man about 5-foot-5 and 160 pounds.

 

Burglary

A burglar stole a Diamondback bicycle from a garage on the 2100 block of Dobson Street between 5:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

 

Vandalism

A garage was marked up with graffiti between 5 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Tuesday on the 1800 block of Lemar Avenue.

 

Marijuana Possession

Walter Griffith, 39, of Evanston was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 9:12 p.m. on Tuesday on the 1700 block of Madison Street. 

Sterling M. Presiter, 21, of Chicago was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana at 5 p.m. on Tuesday on the 1700 block of Dodge Avenue. His court date is set for Oct. 27.

 

Driving without a License

Jose R. Alanis-Moreno, 29, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 8:45 a.m. on Monday on the 400 block of Dodge Avenue. His court date is set for Oct. 27.

Ocampo R. Andres, 31, of Wheeling was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 8:57 p.m. on Tuesday on the 7500 block of North Clark Street in Rogers Park, Chicago. His court date is set for Oct. 5.

D'Juana S. Minott, 21, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 7:42 p.m. on Tuesday on the corner of Emerson Street and Hartrey Avenue. Her court date is set for Oct. 13.

Caritina Patino-Gomez, 39, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 9:41 a.m. on Monday on the 600 block of Howard Street. Her court date is set for Oct. 27.
