Police Blotter Sept. 22: Skokie Man Arrested in Shoe Beating; Bag of Clothes Stolen at Cinema

A recap of crimes committed in Evanston.

The following items are taken from the Evanston Police Department. In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Battery

Aaron D. Morales, 32, of Skokie was arrested at 6:55 p.m. on Wednesday on the 1800 block of Lyons Street in connection with a that occurred at the same location on Tuesday at 7:36 p.m. Morales was charged with battery at 6:55 p.m. on Wednesday in Skokie. The victim reported that two males had beat him up in an alley after they accused him of stealing their shoes. He suffered cuts and welts but did not need medical treatment. The second male has not yet been apprehended. The court date for Morales is set for Oct. 18.

Theft

A tote bag with clothing was stolen from the bar of the Century Cinema on the 1700 block of Maple Avenue while it's owner went to use the ladies' room between 1:30 p.m. and 1:40 p.m. on Wednesday. Cinema employees found the tote bag trashed in the men's room, but the contents were gone. 

A locked, red Novara bicycle was stolen from an apartment building common area between 12:01 a.m. on Sept. 14 and 4:51 p.m. on Wednesday.

 

Burglary

A burglar broke out a window on a 2000 GMC and stole the GPS device between 11 a.m. and 12:50 p.m. on Wednesday.

 

Drug Possession

A 17-year-old Evanston girl was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance at 5:05 p.m. on Tuesday on the 2300 block of Poplar Avenue. Her court date is set for Oct. 18.

 

Man with Gun

A man was seen with a gun at 1:14 p.m. on Wednesday on the 2400 block of Dempster Street. The suspect is a black man about 5-foot-7 and 170 pounds.

A man was seen with a gun at 7:46 a.m. on Wednesday on the 800 block of Austin Street. The suspect is a white man about 5-foot-7.

 

Driving without a License

Taja S. Bodon, 20, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday on the corner of Church Street and McCormick Boulevard. Her court date is set for Oct. 13.

Terrence A. Gardner, 40, of Chicago was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 10:10 p.m. on Tuesday on the 800 block of Dempster Street. His court date is set for Oct. 20.

Camerina Gonzalez, 51, of Evanston was arrested and charged with driving without a valid license at 9 a.m. on Tuesday on the 1300 block of Main Street. Her court date is set for Oct. 13.
