Evanston police arrested a 28-year-old Chicago woman after they were called in to a reported burglary in progress.

Evanston police arrested a 28-year-old woman from Chicago and charged her with burglary after they found her inside a Wesley Avenue home Tuesday morning.

A resident of the 500 block of Wesley Avenue called police around 9:20 a.m. July 3 to report that she believed her home was being robbed, according to a press release from Cmdr. Perry Polinski. When they arrived on scene, officers learned that the 43-year-old woman had just come home when she noticed her basement window was open.

Police entered the home to investigate and found a suspect inside. They arrested Ashanti D. Clark, 28, of Chicago, and charged her with one count of residential burglary, a felony, according to Polinski. Her first court date is set for 9 a.m. July 20 at Cook County Circuit Court in Skokie.
