Police Catch Car Burglar In the Act

Man Arrested For Attempted Burglary to a Vehicle

Evanston police were called to the 2600 block of Central Street at 2:49 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, where a caller reported that a car alarm was going off. They found someone hiding behind a vehicle, briefly chased him on foot and took him to the station, according to police. Dauphin Erner, 18, of the 2100 block of Darrow Street in Evanston, was arrested and charged with attempted burglary to a vehicle after he admitted that he was involved in the incident, according to police.

Shots Fired On Brummel, Church, Ashland, Colfax, Asbury

Police investigated a report that a man had fired a gun in the 1300 block of Brummel Street at 1:19 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 19. Nothing was found in the area.

Police investigated a report that a man had fired a gun at Church Street and Hovland Avenue at 8:58 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17. Nothing was found in the area. 

Police investigated a report that a man had fired a gun at Ashland Avenue and Lee Street at 12:39 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 19. Nothing was found in the area. 

Police investigated a report that a man had fired a gun in the 1100 block of Colfax Street at 9:45 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18. Nothing was found in the area. 

Police investigated a report that a man had fired a gun in the 1900 block of Grey Avenue at 4:31 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, according to police. Nothing was found in the area. 

Police investigated a report that a man had fired a gun in the 100 block of Asbury Avenue at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, according to police. Nothing was found in the area. 

Assault on Simpson, Lyons streets

Someone reported that they were “fearful of receiving a battery” from an unknown man in the 1500 block of Simpson Street between 8:00 and 8:16 p.m Sunday, Aug. 19, according to police. 

Two men threatened their victim between 5:16 and 6:16 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, in the 1800 block of Lyons Street, according to police.

Residential Burglaries on Marcy, Foster, Emerson, Mulford

Someone stole Gucci bifocal glasses and cash from a 2006 Buick left in an unlocked garage in the 2400 block of Marcy Avenue between 4:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, and 10:45 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, according to police. 

Someone stole a 13-inch Apple laptop with an Obama sticker on it, a leather wallet, Ethens backpack, four credit cards, one debit card, a hard drive and New Jersey drivers’ license, among other items, from an unlocked residence in the 800 block of Foster Street between 2 and 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, according to police. 

A man entered an unlocked apartment in the 1700 block of Ridge Avenue at 2:53 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, according to police. 

Someone slashed the window screen of a home in the 2300 block of Emerson street and stole two iPads between 9 a.m.  and 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, according to police. 

Someone stole a 37-inch Samsung TV and Sony DVD player from an apartment in the 800 block of Mulford Street between 12 p.m. Sunday, July 29, and 8:57 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, according to police. 

Someone damaged the bedroom window of an apartment in the 700 block of Mulford Street between 12 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, and 8:18 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, police reported. 

Burglary From a Motor Vehicle

Someone entered an unlocked 2010 Honda parked in the 2100 block of Lincolnwood Drive between 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, police reported. It is unclear what, if anything, was stolen.

Bicycles Stolen on Hinman, Lincolnwood, Central, Hull

Someone stole a 26” girls Diamondback bicycle and a 26” mens DBX bicycle that were locked up in an apartment or condo common area in the 600 block of Hinman Avenue between 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, and 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, according to police.

Someone stole a white and light blue-striped 2010 XC Performance bicycle from an unlocked garage in the 2200 block of Lincolnwood Drive between 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, according to police. 

Someone stole a pink 20” 2011 girls Mongoose bicycle with roses on it from the parking lot of an apartment building in the 1500 block of Central Street, where it was left unlocked, between 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, and 5 p.m. Sundya, Aug. 12, according to police. 

Someone stole the forks of a 17” Marin mountain/hybrid bicycle, Kryptonite lock and graphite forks from an unlocked apartment parking lot in the 1000 block of Hull Terrace between 1:03 and 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, according to police.

Thief Steals Camera and Camera Bag On Garnett Place

A man stole a digital single lens reflex Canon camera and a photo bag worth more than $500 from an apartment in the 1100 block of Garnett Place between 1 a.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, according to police.  

Five Arrested For Retail Theft

Antonio Romelle Hooper, 44, of the 1800 block of Lemar, was arrested and charged with retail theft after he allegedly stole alcohol from a grocery store in the 1100 block of Chicago Avenue at 11:42 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, according to police. 

Two men stole alcohol from a grocery store in the 2700 block of Green Bay Road around 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, police reported. 

Nadia Anwaya, 38, and Squad S. Anwaya, 36, both of the 2400 block of West Jarvis Street in Chicago, and Amera Toma, 52, of the 5400 block of Lunt Street in Chicago, were arrested and charged with retail theft around 3 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, at the Jewel-Osco in the 2400 block of Howard Street, police reported. 

Kyle Adrian Brown, 36, of the 1400 block of Chicago Avenue, was arrested and charged with retail theft at 5:01 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, in the 1400 block of Chicago Avenue, according to police. 

Copper Pipe Stolen on Dempster Street

Someone stole 12 feet of 4-inch diameter copper pipe from a gutter in the 300 block of Dempster Street between 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 10, and 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, according to police. 

Catalytic Converter Stolen at Dempster and Hartrey

Someone stole a catalytic converter from a 2000 Ford parked in a business lot at Dempster Street and Hartrey Avenue between 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, and 7 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, according to police. 

Man Arrested for Disorderly Conduct

Cesario A. Cox, 22, of the 1000 block of McDaniel Avenue in Evanston, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct at 3 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, in the 900 block of Sherman Avenue, according to police. 

Criminal Damage to Property

Someone damaged the doorknob on a gate in the 1200 block of Forest Avenue between 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 17, and 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, according to police. 

Graffiti Sprayed On Chicago, Ridge

Two men left graffiti on railroad property in the 1000 block of Chicago Avenue at 12:15 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, police reported. 

A man sprayed graffiti in the 1800 block of Ridge Avenue at 6:05 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, according to police.
