Police Charge Evanston Man In Cigarette Burglaries

Evanston Police have arrested and charged a 27-year-old Evanston man in connection with two burglaries that took place at a Walgreens on Chicago Avenue last weekend.

Police recently arrested a 27-year-old Evanston man who they say is responsible for breaking the window of a Walgreens on Chicago Avenue twice to steal cigarettes last week.

Matthew A. Long, of the 700 block of Hinman Avenue, was arrested Friday, Oct. 13, and subsequently charged with two counts of burglary, according to a press release from the police department.

In both incidents, police say he used a hammer to break the window of a Walgreens at 635 Chicago Ave., then stole cigarettes. The first burglary took place at 12:10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, while the second occurred at 2:35 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, police reported.

Long is scheduled for an initial court appearance at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, in Cook County Circuit Court in Skokie.

That's it, we need to have all hammers registered with the Police. Perhaps even a Tax on Hammers and a required License to buy and or possess one. Ha Ha
