Police Charge Suspect From Friday's Manhunt

On Monday, Evanston police announced they would press charges against one of two suspects who were arrested after a yard-to-yard search near Judson Avenue last Friday. The two men jumped out of a car that was involved in a report of shots fired in Rogers

Evanston police charged a 21-year-old Chicago man with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon after he led police on a chase through backyards on Judson Avenue Friday.

Antoine D. Sanders, of the 7015 block of Paulina Avenue, was one of two suspects police arrested Friday afternoon, according to Evanston Police Cmdr. Jason Parrott. They drove into Evanston on Sheridan Road shortly before 11 a.m. Friday after an incident involving shots fired near Gale Elementary School at Jonquil Terrace and Marshfield Avenue in Chicago. No one was injured when the gun went off, according to Parrott.

Evanston Police tracked down the car involved in the incident near Judson Avenue and Greenwood Street, at which time the three occupants got out and started running away from police, according to Parrott. Officers tracked down two of the suspects, but the third individual got away. The other man who was arrested was released without charges Sunday.

Police found a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun in the car, Parrott said, and another .40 caliber handgun in the 1300 block of Forest Avenue. Evanston Police still hope to press charges against the man who was released, and they also hope to identify the third occupant of the car, according to Parrott.

In addition to unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, a class three felony, Sanders was also charged with possession of firearm ammunition without a valid firearm owner’s ID card, a class A misdemeanor.
