Police Cite Driver In Pedestrian Death on Crawford

A 77-year-old man from Evanston was issued citations after his vehicle struck 63-year-old Steven Vladem as he was crossing Crawford Street at Grant Avenue. Vladem later died from his injuries.

A 77-year-old man from Evanston was cited with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and failure to yield to a pedestrian after his vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian Saturday night.

Steven Vladem, 63, of Evanston was crossing Crawford Street at Grant Avenue at 10:20 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, . Skokie police and fire responded to the scene, where paramedics transported the Vladem to  in Evanston. He arrived in critical condition and died at 8:07 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, according to police.

Crawford Street is two lanes in each direction with a grassy median and a speed limit of 35 miles per hour. There is no crosswalk at Grant Street, a residential street with one lane in each direction.
