Victim in Tuesday’s Skokie Shooting is Identified

Police: Girl, 16, Crashes Car Into Barrier Wall

A 16-year-old Skokie girl was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after she crashed her car at Green Bay Road and McCormick Boulevard, according to police. No other cars were involved.

Evanston Police say a 16-year-old girl from Skokie was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries after her car crashed into a barrier wall at Green Bay Road and McCormick Boulevard this morning. No one else was riding in her car, and there were no other vehicles involved in the crash, according to a press release from the police department.

The crash took place around 11:15 a.m., police say.

"There are indicators in the investigation that the driver was despondent at the time of the crash," Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott said in the release. Asked whether the crash might have been a suicide attempt, Parrott said that explanation "is being investigated as a clear possibility."

Police shut down the intersection after the accident, and crews will continue to investigate for several hours. Drivers are advised to take alternate routes, police said.

No further information is available at this time. Once new details come in Patch will update.

Was texting involved?

It says that she was despondent at the time. As a teenager, I was driving carelessly, absorbed in a distressed mood, and got into a serious crash. I feel for her and hope that she makes a full recovery. It's scary that young people do not realize what a dangerous machine they are operating when they drive.

Good question, Gregg. Police say texting was not a factor in this crash.

That wall has been the cause of something like 20-25 fatalities over the years. It is the place that many people (young and old) have chosen to end their lives (or try in this case) over the last few decades. Very sad! I am still praying for this young lady.
