Police ID Suspect In Recent Vandalism Sprees

Evanston police believe a 22-year-old man is responsible for 32 separate incidents of criminal damage that took place last weekend, including cut cable wires and flattened tires.

Police say a 22-year-old Evanston man is responsible for 32 separate incidents of criminal damage that took place last weekend, including punctured tires and sliced phone and TV wires, according to a press release from the department.

Detectives used surveillance video from a local CTA station to identify the suspect, who can be seen getting off a train coming from downtown Evanston, then cutting an electrical wire in the station stairway, according to police.

The man who is suspected in the spree of vandalism was not charged, police said, since he was recently admitted to a psychiatric institution to treat a “chronic condition.”
