Police Investigate Robbery of 80-Year-Old Woman

A man grabbed a purse from an 80-year-old woman as she was leaving Charter One Bank at Main Street and Chicago Avenue Tuesday morning, according to police.

An 80-year-old Evanston woman was robbed at Main Street and Custer Avenue as she walked back from a local bank around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, according to police.

The woman had just left the Charter One Bank downtown, at 525 Main St., when a man forcibly took her purse from her, police said. He ran away with two other people into the north alley of Main Street, and then drove off in a vehicle. The woman was not injured during the incident, according to police.

Police said the man was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and was between the ages of 18 and 22.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Evanston Police Department at 847-866-5000 or text the department anonymously by sending the keyword EPDTIP to 274637 (CRIMES) along with the message.

Even you should know the Liberal agenda forbids it. Especially if a perpetrator was wearing a *****
Festus McMoron January 16, 2013 at 02:37 pm
....Especially if a perpetrator was wearing a ***** "Investigators are searching for a male, between 18 and 22 years old and wearing a hooded sweatshirt"
Woman, 80, robbed in broad daylight in Evanston. these thugs make me sick. evansto is becoming as bad as the englewood neighborhood in chicago.

I've added details about the suspect to the story.
Jennifer Fisher (Editor) January 16, 2013 at 02:51 pm
That was my mistake -- I've added details to the story. Police described the suspect as a man between the ages of 18-22 who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt.

What do you mean she wasn't injured? She sure was, she was probably terrified and you don't call that an injury. Your article also doesn't say she was robbed of $1,000 as the Chicago Tribune article does. Was she targeted? You bet your life she was. If they can use underaged teenagers to dupe stores into selling liquour to underage kids then why can't they set up stings to bust these thugs. I really can't let my wife walk to the store alone now can I?
J C January 16, 2013 at 06:35 pm
Well it's obvious we need to ban hoody's , They seem to be involved in most of these types of crimes.
Festus McMoron January 16, 2013 at 06:50 pm
...there we go: "The offender, described as male/black, 18 to 22 years of age. surprise, surprise. i'm sick of this. what person in their right mind would want to move to evanston. it's as bad as chicago innercity. i wouldn't send my kid to nu if i lived out-of-state.
Jennifer Fisher (Editor) January 16, 2013 at 07:04 pm
John, police said she was not physically injured, and that's what I meant by "injured." I'm sure she was terrified! I would be. Thank you for adding the information about the $1,000.

Evanston use to be one of the best places to live, now I dont think Evanston is worth it. I was raised in Evanston but now nothing And I mean nothing could make me come live there again. All the things that didnt go on there is , everywhere and to think your not even safe in broad daylight.the city of Evanston should as a priority should have bettet lighting there in the night time. Its so dark anyone could get robbed and you couldnt possibly give a discription because you cant see them. People should really protest to yhe city of Evanston for better lighting.

You're right, Patch. This post is barely literate.
Jordan S. Zoot June 13, 2013 at 08:59 am
The writer of the post is illiterate....that is clear. The Evanston Police, in general, do a greatRead More job in this community. There ought be a new category created specifically for membership in a gang that has demonstrated committed acts of violence...it goes back to the first smart thing which Mark Kirk ever said which was locking up each and every one of the 18.5K members of the Gangster Disciples. The second thing that can be done is that each and every law abiding Evanston resident that is legally able to do so should avail themselves of the right to obtain a new Illinois Concealed Carry Permit for a handgun. An armed society is a polite society.
