Police Investigating Two Potentially Explosive Bottles

Two "suspicious" bottles containing a possibly explosive liquid have been found in Evanston, according to police.

The first bottle was found Thursday afternoon and the second one Saturday morning, according to police. They were found in the 2700 and 2800 blocks of Lincoln St.

Evanston Fire and Life Safety Services safely diffused the bottles, which can be harmful if agitated, but can not be activated remotely, police said.

Police are Investigating Suspicious Bottles Found in Northwest Evanston

The Evanston Police Department is currently investigating two incidents in the 2700 and 2800 blocks of Lincoln St. where two bottles were found that contained a mixture of an ammonia like liquid and tin foil. These bottles were recovered separately on Thursday, December 26th  in the afternoon hours and the second this morning.

Both bottles were diffused by personnel from Evanston Fire and Life Safety Services. The Evanston Police Department wants to advise the public that these types of devices are hazardous if handled and can cause injury.  Area residents are asked to call police if they observe or locate any plastic bottles that appear to contain a similar substance or are unfamiliar to the resident. Residents are also reminded to not handle the bottle in any way. This type of device becomes harmful if agitated by movement and cannot be activated remotely.
