Police Make 4 DUI Arrests During St. Patrick’s Day Crackdown

Evanston police arrested and charged four people with driving under the influence during a St. Patrick’s Day enforcement campaign, according to a press release from the department. 

Between Thursday, March 14, to Sunday, March 17, a group of Evanston police officers were assigned to a specialized traffic enforcement initiative as part of the Illinois Department of Transportation’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns.

“Extra emphasis was given to late-night hours, as statistics show the highest number of motorists drink and drive along with the fewest motorists buckling up during this time of day,” Evanston Police Cmdr. Jason Parrott said in the release.  “This campaign has been a successful operation with the increased enforcement effort over this four day time period along with no reported traffic crashes that resulted in serious injuries or deaths within Evanston.” 

During the enforcement initiative, Evanston police officers also made 120 citations in addition to the four DUI arrests, according to the release. Those included 56 tickets for driving without a seatbelt, 13 tickets for speeding, 11 tickets for driving while talking on a cell phone, 9 tickets for driving without insurance, 3 tickets for driving with a suspended license and 1 ticket for reckless driving.
