Police: Men With Guns Invade Evanston Home

Police are investigating a reported home invasion in the 100 block of Asbury Avenue Wednesday, Aug. 1.

An Evanston man heard a knock on his door and opened it to find three young men brandishing guns on Wednesday afternoon, according to police.

The three men confronted the 21-year-old victim around 2:45 p.m. while a fourth stood watch outside the victim's home in the 100 block of Asbury Avenue, police reported.

Two women and three children were also home when the four offenders arrived, according to police. Witnesses reported hearing the men refer to the location of money and drugs, and described them as being in their late teens or early twenties.

After two people in the home escaped through a window, the young men with guns ran away, police reported. No one was injured.

Police searched the area around the home, but were unable to find any suspects nearby. Detectives are still investigating the crime.

Residents with information are encouraged to contact the Evanston Police Department Detective Bureau at (847) 866-5040. Anonymous tips can also be sent via text message to CRIMES (274637) with "EPDTIP" in the message line.

RS...you're such a self-centered, Republikan tool. Why do you care what goes on in Evanston if you don't even live here?

Home invasions are increasing rapidly. These thugs know that there is less of a chance getting caught burglarizing a home then robbing businesses. So stay safe, be vigilant, install deadbolts and keep alarm activated. If you don't have an alarm system you can get a a FREE 15 entry point at www.homesecurityalarms.net

DL: "RS...you're such a self-centered, Republikan tool. Why do you care what goes on in Evanston if you don't even live here?" Hmmmm. . . .perhaps I'm not self-centered. Perhaps, I care about Evanston, even though I don't live in Evanston anymore. Perhaps, I see a train-wreck coming for Evanston and want to warn folks. Conservatives are caring people. Conservatives want the best for everybody. Handing out "hand-outs" to people robs them of their self-respect. Conservatives believe in a "hand-up", not a "hand out". If you help people with a "hand-up", people will be able to help themselves. If you just give people "hand-outs", then people become dependent. Do we really want people to be dependent on government or would it be better for as many people as possible being independent?

Rich---Perhaps I'm wrong but I could swear you've been talking about "moved to FL three months ago" for close to a year now---whatever---but why you continue posting here when you have such pent up hostility toward Evanston is puzzling?---Obviously you have every right to continue but maybe you might want to look to a FL panhandle Patch site being you've pretty much run your course here, and clearly many people here are tired of your inflammatory style (regardless of any claim you still might care about Evanston)...It just so happens I'm a moderate conservative but I don't agree with the methods you express your opinions in any way...respectfully, John Brinkmann

Jennifer, the details are available. The victims were in the process of being evicted and apparently there were issues with the tenants. Not that it makes armed robbery less shocking, but it doesn't seem to be a random attempted robbery.

Yet you have no problem with corporate welfare. So what hand-ups are conservatives offering to the little people these days?
Richard Schulte August 03, 2012 at 09:53 PM
Sully: "Yet you have no problem with corporate welfare. So what hand-ups are conservatives offering to the little people these days?" Actually Sully, I was and am opposed to the GM and Chrysler bail-outs and all of the other bail-outs that were handed out in 2008 and 2009. Goldman-Sachs should have been allowed to go "belly up". I am also opposed to giving money to Solyndra and all of the other "green" energy companies. I'm not sure how you would conclude that I support "corporate welfare" from the above. With respect to the "hand-ups" for the "little people", let's put America back to work- jobs, jobs, jobs. We could start building the Keystone XL pipeline tomorrow. We could get the EPA off of the backs of the energy industry. Let's drill, drill and drill all over America. The Canadians are doing well developing their energy industry and so is Texas and North Dakota. America is the Saudi Arabia of natural gas. The Obama Administration is the reason why the recession has been lingering for the last 3-1/2 years. Replace Obama with Romney and get Republican majorities in both the House and the Senate and the American economy will boom. To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, Obama is not the solution to our problem; Obama is the problem.

@Tad, can you tell me where you got your information from? I just got in touch with the police again and they're still unable to provide further details while the incident is under investigation.
Richard Schulte August 03, 2012 at 10:30 PM
Mr. Brinkman, one approach to life is "see no evil, hear no evil", but it doesn't mean that evil isn't happening. It just means that you choose to ignore the evil all around you-the "go along, to get along" philosophy. Many of the citizens of Evanston have wrapped themselves in a cocoon-they have surrounded themselves with people who all think the same. For a city that boasts "diversity is our stength", Evanston is sure a place that abhors diversity of thought. What I bring to Patch is an alternative viewpoint-diversity if you will. What's nice about Patch is that it's the written word. No one is forced to read what I write. If you don't like my opinions, you can always choose not to read what I write. Evanston is a fine place. It's the kooks that have taken over that I have a problem with. I took care of that problem by moving to Florida, but that doesn't mean that I'm just going to leave Evanston to drown in its narrow-mindedness. I write to rescue Evanston from the kooks. The views that I express are just common sense. It's difficult to see why anyone would be opposed to commons sense, but it would appear that about half of the population of America is opposed to common sense. If some in Evanston find that my views offensive, you should know that I find much of what goes on in Evanston offensive and I am exercising my right to voice my opinion. Only people who don't believe in free speech would want to silence someone who disagree with them.
Sully August 03, 2012 at 10:37 PM
To paraphrase Sully, you are too simplistic to understand much of anything on a deeper level. Maybe you should move to a fracking area or to an area where pipelines are underground. From what i know of you though, you'd probably put on your cheeleading outfit with pompoms and cheer as the mountaintops are blown to kingdomcome. And all those oil leaks? Well who needs clean drinking water anyway.

Richard lives in a most interesting alternate reality, wouldn't you say? But he's the only way I know what Rush, et al. are saying. I thought it was a mistake by both parties to take the tea party lightly. I had friends say Palin would just go back into the woodwork after the last presidential election, but I didn't believe she would. Now look what has happened. The republican party has been hijacked by people who don't care what the ramifications will be if they refuse to compromise. It's all about what they want and to hell with everybody else. The American people making up the tea party don't even know what is happening because they fall in lockstep with their leaders and the media who shill for them. Moderates and other sane individuals dropped the ball by not paying attention to the movement. I can't listen to Rush without getting nauseous, so Richard is an excellent resource to use to find out what the latest outrage is or what the latest misinformation campaign may be. I'm sorry though that the topic of the article is always kicked to the wayside, though.
Richard Schulte August 03, 2012 at 10:59 PM
Sully tells us that he has a PhD in education. Many PhD's tell us that life is so complex that only the elite among us can really figure it out. All of the rest of us are just too dumb and need to be led like sheep by the elitists. So the elitist Sully warns us that fracking and pipelines are not environmentally friendly. Apparently, Sully doesn't know about all of the oil and gas pipelines that already exist. (25,000 miles of pipelines already exist in America.) And apparently Sully doesn't know that they have clean drinking water in North Dakota and Texas. Pipelines are the environmentally safest means of transporting oil and gas. And the EPA just revealed that fracking didn't pollute the drinking water in Pennsylvania as the EPA charged. Like global warming, water pollution from fracking is just another hoax that the environmentalists have dreamed up. For a know-it-all elitist, Sully sure is dumb. Probably the only person who doesn't know that he ain't that bright is Sully. Us dumb ones would prefer to have jobs so that we can feed and clothe ourselves without having to depend upon the elitists. Us dumb ones aren't that dumb.

Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi founded the TEA party in 2009 with the Stimulus and Obamacare, but the TEA party has no leaders. While Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann are TEA party favorites, they are not the leaders of the "party". With respect to Rush Limbaugh, Rush just combines his good old-fashioned Midwestern common sense with a bit of intellect and his sense of humor. I understand why Sully gets nauseated listening to Rush-common sense makes elitists ill. Yes, Sully, life is not really that complex-all you need is common sense to figure it out. Rush's radio program started on August 1st, 1988-Rush has 24 years on the radio under its belt. At any time, Rush has about 12 million listeners with about 20 million different listeners on a weekly basis. Air America fizzled after 2 years. Thumbs up Rush.

The leaders of the tea party are the Koch brothers. Where do you think all that money comes from to get these politicians in office? This is off topic Rich. Feel free to post your nonsense, but I'm through with this thread.
Richard Schulte August 04, 2012 at 04:57 PM
Sully: "The leaders of the tea party are the Koch brothers. Where do you think all that money comes from to get these politicians in office?" The Koch Brothers might supply some of the campaign cash that assists the TEA party, but it won't buy voter enthusiam and hard work done by TEA campaigns. The TEA party has been successful because Americans are tired of having Obamacare "shoved down our throats" and having billions of our tax dollars wasted by the government. We're tired of big-mouth leftists (like Sully) call us racists, bigot and haters. We're tired of the progressive agenda. It's time to take America back from the kooks. The TEA party routed the Democrats in the 2010 election and it looks like another Republican landslide in 2012. Governor Scott Walke's victory in the recall election was just writing on the wall and Chief Justice John Roberts' opinion on Obamacare threw the "hot potato" into the Democrats lap. The Chief Justice's opinion was brilliant. With a little help from God, Romney will defeat Obama and the Republicans will have majorities in both the House and Senate. If that happens, the hell that President Obama and the Democrats have put America through these last 4 years will finally be over and America can get back to work. President Romney, that has such a pleasant ring to it. Former President Obama has an even sweeter ring to it. America's best days are ahead of us.

Sully - I get such a kick out of you folks on the left and how you want to define the Tea Party. The truth is you can't and so you resort to false allegations and childish name calling. As an actual Tea Party member who ran for office in 2008 (and formerly from Evanston) let me tell you what the Tea Party is - we are both the Democrats and the Republicans worst frickin' nightmare. We can't be controlled - not by the Koch brothers or the Republican Party establishment (did you see what just happened in Texas?). We can actually think for ourselves and what most of think is the bigger the Government gets, the more it sucks- to be blunt. I joined the Tea Party by watching Rick Sentelli live when he went on his tirade on CNBC about the debt that we are leaving our children. They're screwed - financially. During my campaign, I cried out about Evanstons debt crises and I was called a Pariah, a liar, and I was driven out of business. Now in 2012, everything I predicted has come true and there is no satisfaction in saying I told you so. Please watch this - http://abclocal.go.com/wls/video?id=8757046 So as a TEA Party supporter and military veteran, I support your right to free speech, no matter how ridiculous your comments are. And for my next prediction – the GOP will win the White House and take over Congress. And that is not a good thing.

Part II - and to stay consistant with the topic at hand - Evanston is considered to be one of the most dangerous college towns by a study done of large Univerisites. I'll take thier word for it. And downtown Evanston is every bit as dangerous as Howard street, it just gets reported differently.

Sully: "Thanks Rich, you never disappoint!" From Wikipedia: "[T]he Democratic Party suffered major defeats in many national and state level elections, with many seats switching to Republican Party control. The Republican Party gained 63 seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, recapturing the majority, and making it the largest seat change since 1948 and the largest for any midterm election since the 1938 midterm elections. The Republicans gained six seats in the U.S. Senate, expanding its minority, and also gained 680 seats in state legislative races,[3][4][5] to break the previous majority record of 628 set by Democrats in the post-Watergate elections of 1974.[5] This left Republicans in control of 25 state legislatures, compared to the 15 still controlled by Democrats. After the election, Republicans took control of 29 of the 50 State Governorships." Another dose of reality for Sully (the elitist) and the leftist kooks who live in Evanston: "The left now treats the middle class as a mass of ignorant untouchables "clinging to their guns and religion." The eco-radicals wish to return society to a primordial, pre-industrial condition; the tort bar wants to amass huge fortunes for themselves at the expense of business and jobs; union bosses hope to place everyone under their thumb; minorities work to perpetuate affirmative action and minority set-asides; and government just wants to grow like a cancer until the nation it feeds upon is completely eaten up and destroyed. Whoever speaks out against this unholy alliance of special interests is regarded as a Tea Party extremist." Read more: http://www.americanthinker.com/2012/08/liberal_decay.html#ixzz22gVnFC3a A "cancer" is a good way to describe the leftist kooks who live in Evanston.
