Police: Parolee Arrested With Marijuana, Bullets

Evanston police arrested a 36-year-old Evanston man and charged him with unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver and possession of ammunition without a FOID card.

Police arrested a 36-year-old Evanston man out on parole for burglary after they found cannabis and bullets at his home, police said.

Marcus R. Johnson, of the 1100 block of Sherman Avenue, is charged with unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver and unlawful possession of cannabis, both felonies, according to police. He is also charged with possession of ammunition without a valid FOID card.

Investigators from the Evanston Police Special Operations Group, Cook County Sheriff’s Police Gang Crimes North Unit and parole agents from the Illinois Department of Corrections conducted random checks on about 20 people out on parole in Evanston or confined to electronic home monitoring.

“The reason for this random check by law enforcement and the criminal justice system is to ensure these individuals are in compliance with guidelines set for the by the correctional institution as a part of being on parole or on home confinement awaiting disposition of a pending court case,” police said in a press release.

During the operation, police found more than 500 grams of cannabis and two .44 caliber bullets at Johnson’s home in the 1100 block of Sherman Avenue. Because he was out on parole, he was also found to be in violation of his parole and was served an additional parole violation warrant, police said.

Johnson was sentenced to 7 years in prison for residential burglary and aggravated battery and served time from October 2009 to March 2012, when he was released on parole.
