Police Promise Strict Presence at Northwestern-Ohio State Game

In a warning to fans, police said they will be on the lookout for disorderly conduct, public urination and open containers of alcohol and would make arrests if need be.

The following press release was issued by the Evanston Police Department in advance of the sold-out Northwestern-Ohio State football game Saturday:

The Evanston Police Department wants to give notice to all participants attending the festivities associated with the upcoming Northwestern vs. Ohio State football game this Saturday, October 5th.

Concerns of potential problematic activity occurring in the neighborhoods around Ryan Field, off-campus housing and downtown Evanston from excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages will be taken seriously by law enforcement.

Individuals committing violations of disorderly conduct, public urination, and/or having an open container of alcohol on the public way will be subject to arrest and required to post a $120 cash bond for release from police custody after the time consuming booking procedure.

Additionally, minors in possession of alcoholic beverages will be subject to arrest with the same provisions of bond and booking.

Please consider your environment while attending football related events this weekend and assist in creating a positive atmosphere for all, in and around the Evanston Community.

Extra police personnel will be on hand in these areas to address any violations observed or as a result of complaints exhibiting this type of behavior.

I've noticed that as Northwestern's athletic prowess increases, its academic prowess decreases! NU 's academic rating has dropped again, from 19th to 22nd this year. (This info was reported on the news.) Conversely, The University of Chicago's rating increased again to 9th - and the U of C does not have a football team or any competitive sports teams, for that matter. (U of C still offers fencing, I believe.) Sports is big business, of course, but it is no match for academic excellence.

The scary thing is in 47 or 48 states the highest paid state employee is a football coach. This country's priorities are so far out of wack. And I realize that NW is not a state school. Just making a point related to the topic

Will there be any police presence at ETHS at the Homecoming Game tonight and the dance tomorrow night? I understand the concern for reduction of public urination by drunken college students who should know better. But what about the safety of high school students who have been caught in the cross fire of some people who resort to guns to solve their problems?

@HerbalSW Call 311 or your Alderperson and ask. Tell them of your Concerns.

@HerbalSW I'm sure the police are going to be at the ETHS events as they usually are. I think sometimes people forget Northwestern has their own police dept and an article came out a few days ago that Northwestern was bringing in lots of additional officers in addition to the extra evanston officers.
